Is it a little slimy to have one’s department heads writing letters lavishing praise on an elected official without some sort of disclaimer? I think so.

Chris Dunn, Executive Director of Allen County Youth Services doesn’t seem to think so as he heaped praise on Nelson Peters, who is opposed to Allen County employees paying 3 percent of their pay into their retirement plans. The state mandates it, but since 1988, the County has paid. Read the rest of this entry »

Karen Goldner and Tim Pape are whining like school yard children over City Council President Mitch Harper and County Council President Darren Vogt’s decision to hold a joint meeting of city and county councils  to review an ordinance that will cost the city/county $1.4 million before it goes to their respective councils for a vote.

It should be noted, (and Pape and Goldner never mention this), the ordinance only appropriates $700K. There is nothing in there that spells out when they have to do anything, or what they have to accomplish. Just give Tom Henry and Beth Malloy $700K to buy more software and contract some of Beth’s friends to provide retraining programs for employees who aren’t very nice to applicants. There are no deadlines, no benchmarks, no nothing. Just cash.

From Abdul-Hakim Shabazz
Indianapolis Political Buzz Examiner

Marion County GOP Chairman Tom John is officially stepping down from the position.   In a letter to precinct committeemen John cited the difficulty in balancing the demands as Chairman with those of his personal life as the reason for his resignation.

On a personal note, being chairman has its costs.  Whether it is people upset with decisions you make or simply the difficulty of balancing the unpaid Chairmanship with work demands and family obligations, it is a difficult job that takes a toll.  For these reasons, I have always believed that a chairman should not remain in the role too long.  As I look at my personal priorities and the tremendously important year upcoming, I have decided to resign as your chairman effective upon the election of my successor.

I suspect that Tom John’s decision was influenced by two other items besides what he stated above. One is a proposal being drafted to change Indiana Code that would require county chairman of to submit each year to the county election board the name and address of the party’s precinct committeeman for each precinct in their county.

The other is proposed GOP party rule changes that would not allow “appointed” precinct committeemen to vote during the election for chairman.

Makes one wonder what is noodling through chairman Shine’s noggin.
