Democrat leadership needs 60 votes to invoke cloture on the bill, which basically means it ends the filibuster threat and moves the bill on for final passage. Currently it does not appear that they have the 60 votes needed. Senator Evan Bayh will now be the target of intense lobbying by the White House, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and others. It is very possible that Bayh’s vote on cloture could be the deciding vote. A vote for cloture is a vote for federal funding for abortion – it’s that simple. Please contact Senator Bayh and let him know that a vote for cloture is a vote for federal funding for abortion.
