I’ve been watching some of the Indiana Tea Party member’s reactions to the recent debt ceiling vote on Facebook, and some of it is quite unbelievable. For some of them, and they are the minority, they expected a vote that they “demanded” and nothing less. No. Sorry folks. That didn’t happen.
There’s something lacking in their arguments. Substance. They demanded no increase to the debt ceiling, period. What we got, and most conservatives agree, is a bill that fell far to short of the Utopia some of the Indiana Tea Party members envision. However, the net result is something that has never been achieved in Washington before. A cut in spending with no new taxes. All that aside, I cannot say I support the bill, but given the hard choices I understand how some felt it was best deal we were going to get. Keep in mind, the democrats control two-thirds of our executive branch. Baby steps.
“What Speaker Boehner has proposed — no new taxes, spending cuts that exceed the amount of the debt-limit increase — then we have a victory,” said Henry Kelley, chairman of the Fort Walton Beach Tea Party in Florida. “We have a great victory. I’m a little perplexed at the people [who] have come up with some mystical amount that we have to cut. We didn’t get into this mess overnight, and we can’t get out of it overnight.”
I could cite many, many more examples of Tea Party leaders around the county that think this is a good move forward. Google it. Read the rest of this entry »
The 60th annual National Day of Prayer services will be held tomorrow, May 5th. The theme for this year’s event is “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” The national honorary chairman is the remarkable Joni Erickson Tada, a leader who has inspired millions with her life lived out in a Christ-like manner following a diving accident at the age of 17 which left her paralyzed. She has been an advocate for the disabled and a theologian for living the Christian life fully through hardship with joy and a constant eternal perspective overlooking her present condition.
If you would like to participate in a National Day of Prayer event joining others in lifting up our nation, you can enter your zip code in the “Find an Event” link just under the countdown clock on the web site: http://nationaldayofprayer.org/Read the rest of this entry »
Indiana Senate Moves Marriage Measure Forward Amid Disruptions
On Monday the Indiana Senate took up the issue of protecting our marriage statutes with a constitutional amendment. Last November you may recall voting on a constitutional amendment to protect a property tax cap law successfully pushed through the legislature by Governor Daniels. This is the same type of proposal. HJR 6 will protect our marriage laws for future generations of children who deserve the best shot at having both a mom and a dad. Read the rest of this entry »
Breaking News: Democrat House Minority Leader Patrick Bauer is back in the State Capitol meeting with Speaker Brian Bosma at this moment.
Be Cautious – State House Shutdown Doesn’t Make Citizens Safer
Occasionally, in articles and talks I have invoked the famous adage of New York Judge Gideon J. Tucker, who in 1866 observed, “No man’s life, liberty or property is safe when the legislature is in session.” The judge’s quip is generally true, but when it comes to this current shutdown of the Indiana State House, do not be deceived. We are not safer with thirty-seven AWOL Democrat legislators hiding out at a Comfort Inn in Illinois. Read the rest of this entry »
“I want to say “thank you” again to all those who stood with AFA of Indiana in 2010. Your prayers and financial support are always very helpful and greatly appreciated.”
Go West Young Man
Have you ever stumbled across an unexpected childhood memory and been surprised at the power of that emotion? Last year I was at an antique store where I saw a set of children’s books that I had not seen since my childhood. The book was a western series called Cowboy Sam. I had read several of them at my grandparent’s home on vacations and summer trips. I had thought I forgot them until I saw one again and remembered it all over with great fondness. It made me wonder what fond reading memories my kids might have years from today. Read the rest of this entry »
It’s looking more and more like Mike Pence may be the one. We hope Becky’s health issue is not a serious matter.
INDIANAPOLIS – Lt. Governor Becky Skillman today issued the following statement on a gubernatorial run in 2012.
“With much disappointment, I am announcing today that I will not be a candidate for Governor in 2012. My end of year physical exam revealed minor health issues. Nothing will interfere with my devotion to my duties as Lt. Governor, and I plan to continue the same pace as always. However, it is best to continue without the additional stress of a gubernatorial campaign.
“I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my family, office staff, campaign staff, and many friends and supporters throughout the state who offered great encouragement for my potential candidacy.
“I look forward to the next two years of service with enthusiasm, particularly the up-coming legislative session, as Governor Mitch and I work every day to move our state forward.” Read the rest of this entry »
“Jim Banks is a true conservative and would be a great State Senator for District 17. Jim and his wife Amanda have been part of the conservative movement at the local, state and national level in fighting for lower taxes and less government spending. He is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and a tireless defender of the right to life. Indiana needs more leaders like Jim Banks in the State House and I am proud to endorse him for State Senate.”
Last night was a nightmare come true, as house democrats turned their backs on their base and voted to approve Pelosi’s bullshit healthcare plan. They were goaded on by Obama, who told them, “You don’t want those extremist teabag people to win, do you?”
One Republican, Joe Cao, who replaced “Dollar Bill” Jefferson in a democrat district from Louisiana voted yes. 39 Democrats voted no.
Think of the chocolate bunny as your rights, and the heat source, well, you’ll get it. Chocolate Bunny Kill
It’s now in the hands of the senate. Evan Bayh, beware.
FWIW, the Stupak-Pitts amendment to strip abortion funding from the bill passed. Now we’ll have to wait and see if it can survive the conference committee with the Senate, or a Supreme Court challenge.
