New Fort Wayne weather blog

Greg Shoup gave me a heads up today that WANE has a new weather blog, which will have content from all four weather people. If you’re not happy with the speed that WANE.com loads, as I am, you’ll be surprised at how fast their blog loads. It’s built using WordPress and loads quickly.

Changes to comment system

We’ve installed Intense Debate. A large number of blogs are moving to this system and it allows several login options. Over time, it will also eliminate the need for constant moderation. It also has some nice features for those that comment.

We’d suggest getting an account, although it’s not a requirement. You can do so by going to their web site: http://intensedebate.com/.

Changes to AWB

I’ve added a couple of changes that may be of interest to our readers.

I have added two new sections to the blog. The one that may have more interest for regular readers is a discussion forum. I thought it would be nice for all of the politicos, hacks or whatever you consider yourself to have a place to hang out and discuss things that are not being discussed on local blogs.

I have started with the following forums:

General discussions
Fort Wayne City Government
Fort Wayne Community Schools
Indiana politics
National politics

You can create topics within each of them, just please stay on topic. If you feel the need for more forums, let me know and I will add them.

You can find the forums here. I’ll be placing a link on the right sidebar within the next day or so.

The other area I’ve created is a classified ads section. I’m still testing it, and it does have one bug. Clicking on a category does not work, but browsing ads seems okay, (I have one test ad up). It’s a work in-progress, but feel free to give it a whirl, it’s free.

And no, this will not be like Craig’s List. No personal ads, no hookers or happy-ending massages, etc.

Linking Indiana Top Blogs Award

Okay, this wasn’t really what I would call a “contest,” it was more of a “who can get more people to vote for you” thing. The contest was held by an Indiana-based social networking firm, LinkingIndiana.com. Their intent was to make people more aware of Indiana blogs, and based on some of the traffic we received from their site, we think it worked.

AWB was in the top ten, (#7), and also won favorite political blog.

No Surfing Blogspot Blogs from SACS

Right now I’m sitting in the parking lot of Homestead High School borrowing their Internet access, hehehe. The interesting thing is, you cannot go to any Blog on Blogger from here, they block access as inappropriate. You can however get to all of the Typepad.com Blogs. Interesting.

Update: When my son came out I explained it to him. He said that was a simple fix. Just go to www.Kproxy.com. If you can stand the popups, it works pretty good.

Bloggers are Nice People

As I recover from my surgical nightmare I still find it hard to sit at the computer for much more than 5-10 minutes, but after having my first real meal in 6 days I feel good enough to write about this.

Today I received a special treat. One of our fellow Bloggers was kind enough to bring me a salad and some mostaccioli. It was delicious, and the company was even better.

Ugh, no – it wasn’t Craig but I would have shared some with him.
