I’ve been receiving emails for three weeks now regarding a sex offender purportedly prowling the southwest side of Fort Wayne. I’m sure a lot of you have received them as well.

The original email appears to have came from a Whitley County School administrator.

They day after the above email was supposedly sent, I spoke with Steve Lake, assistant principal at Homestead high School. He confirmed that an incident had occurred, but he could not release additional information. He did indicate he had warned his daughter about the incident.

I decided to (again) feature sex offenders in surrounding cities. Today, we’re in Huntington, Indiana.

This POS was trusted by his friend’s mother to babysit her daughters. Instead, Barber abused that position of trust and molested her twice, while she was between seven and eight years old. You can read his appeal [here]. He was represented by Patricia Caress McMath, and Indianapolis attorney that seems to have a penchant for representing child molesters. I will have a follow-up on her at a later date.

He now lives and is employed in the same town he committed the crime, Huntington, Indiana.

He was convicted of 3 counts of child molesting with a prior conviction in Michigan for 1st degree criminal sexual conduct, which is engaging in sexual penetration with a person 15 years or younger.

This location also has a McDonald’s PlayLand, so I’m certain it’s a big hit the the kids.

Why this guy (see below the fold) is out walking the streets is beyond me. He’s living proof that recidivism rates for child molesters can be as high as 45%. In this guy’s piece of human debris’ case, the justice system has failed. Three child molesting convictions; 1991, 1999, and again in 2005.

What is interesting, he lives in the Nebraska neighborhood. In looking at the sex offender map the area bounded by Spring Street to the north, Leesburg Road to the west. Sherman to the west and the railroad tracks to the south, lives 19 sex offenders. This area comprises only 6 square city blocks.
