Indianapolis Candidate Forum this Friday

There will be a candidate forum on the East side of Indianapolis at Crossroads Bible College this Friday evening at 6:00 pm. The college is located at 601 North Shortridge Road. The event is freeand will include several state and federal candidates. Big Victory for the US Military!

While our US servicemen and women have been faithfully serving around the world to defend our nation, liberals in Washington, DC, have been actively working to enact radical social engineering schemes under the guise of military funding legislation.

Yesterday, Senate leader Harry Reid attempted to bring the $726 billion Defense Reauthorization bill to a vote. In order to do this, he needed 60 votes to end debate under the Senate rules. Amazingly, every Republican, including RINO’s like Susan Collins, and a few Democrats in election trouble like Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas stood firm and the bill failed on a 56-43 vote – four short of the 60 needed.

The reason for the bill’s demise was due to the controversial amendments stuck on the funding measure. The most egregious of which was the effort to repeal the ban on open homosexuality in the military known as “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” (At the time of its passage under President Clinton, DADT was considered a compromise with homosexual demands groups, but they haven’t compromised and walked away from their ultimate goals.)

The legislation also included efforts to expand abortion on military bases and the “Dream Act” which many see as an amnesty plan for the children of illegal immigrants.

I found a line an Associated Press account of this victory rather amusing. It noted that Republicans, conservatives and military officers opposed the repeal of DADT. Republicans, social conservatives, and, oh, yeah, military officers don’t like it either, as if that is just a minor point. It’s a huge point! Yesterday, even President Obama’s nominee to be the next Marine Corps Commandant spoke out before the Senate’s Armed Services Committee. He did so in opposition to the avid support the President has expressed for homosexuals in the military.

Marine General James Amos, told the Committee, “In my personal view, the current law and associated policy have supported the unique requirements of the Marine Corps, and thus I do not recommend its repeal.” He added that Marine input from an online survey regarding Congress’ plan to allow open homosexuality in the military “has been predominantly negative.”

There are a lot of reasons why most military personnel do not like the idea of allowing homosexuality in the military. Here are just a few:

It undermines troop morale for several reasons including violations of personal privacy and modesty through forced cohabitation with soldiers sexually attracted to each other. For the same problematic reasons, we do not allow male and female soldiers to bunk and shower in the same barracks. Forcing heterosexuals to serve with homosexuals also undermines military cohesion.

It would harm recruitment efforts. Polling shows that if DADT is repealed, up to 25% of current duty service members would not re-enlist or would consider not re-enlisting if forced to share quarters with people who engage in homosexual acts.

Recruitment levels have been higher with segments of the population who hold to traditional values. Such groups would be less inclined to join the service if homosexuality is allowed and endorsed.

It would cause a loss of military chaplains who will not compromise their religious beliefs or risk punishment for expressing what their faith says about homosexual behavior.

It would lead to “sensitivity training” for soldiers who disagree with homosexuality because the repeal of the ban on homosexual conduct, which goes back even to the Continental Army under General George Washington, would elevate homosexual choices to the moral equivalent of race and skin color.

There is no constitutional right to serve in the military. Our armed services have always had the ability and the obligation to set standards for service which best uphold military readiness and effectiveness. This legislation was fatally flawed and deserved to be defeated, though its outcome was uncertain right up to the moment of the vote. Homosexual demands groups poured millions of dollars and thousands of hours of effort into this vote, and they had the support of a sympathetic mainstream media, Senate leader Harry Reid and President Obama. Many expect this issue to come back during the dangerous “lame duck” session in December after the accountability of the November election is removed from the backs of many legislators.

Incidentally, for all his quirks and “maverick” wanderings that bother many conservatives, Sen. John McCain whose military service and knowledge is unquestionable, deserves a lot of credit for leading the opposition to the repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” on the floor of the Senate. In spite of the opposition to the repeal of DADT from the Indianapolis-based American Legion, the nation’s largest veterans group, Senator Bayh voted with Senator Reid. Senator Lugar voted with the GOP.

Democrats Gaining Momentum . . . But Perhaps Not In Indiana?

There is a new poll from Zogby Polling that is probably receiving a lot of attention behind closed doors in campaign circles all across the nation today. The poll shows Democrats ahead of Republicans for the first time since May in the generic ballot question for whom Americans would rather see control congress. It seems as though Democrat voters are gelling around their candidates with an eight-point jump in support among the party’s base. Pollster John Zogby explains, “President Obama’s attempts to draw contrasts with the Republicans and raise fears about a Republican takeover of Congress appear to have been successful, especially among Democratic voters.”

However, if this poll is correct in revealing a new change in trends that shift has not seemed to help Indiana Democrats this week.

A political magazine web site (Hotline on Call) is claiming that the national Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee has shifted significant amounts of money away from a planned advertisement buy in mid-October for Indiana 9th District Congressman Baron Hill. It seems that this money is now going to Columbus, Ohio for Congresswoman Mary Jo Kilroy. Apparently, the Hill campaign is furious over this decision and is still arguing that their campaign is worthy of continuous national support.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is also wavering on financial support for Congressman Brad Ellsworth in his bid for the open Senate seat against former Ambassador Dan Coats. Ellsworth does have about $1.2 million on hand, giving him the ability to do advertising in the final days of the campaign. Nevertheless, his campaign had to answer questions this week about rumors that he would have no national party support. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has already aired TV ads for candidates in Delaware, Colorado, Missouri and Pennsylvania.

Conventional Wisdom May be Overlooking Concerns of Voters

Speaking of polling, I was in Washington, DC, a week ago for a meeting of pro-family and conservative state and national leaders who gathered before the start of the Values Voter Summit. Part of our six-hour meeting involved an in-depth presentation from a leading political polling firm. One of the interesting things we learned was that many polling firms are operating from conventional wisdom regarding the views of voters.

We were shown numerous slides breaking down various polling data on the “top concerns” of voters. As you would imagine, with a lingering 10% unemployment rate jobs and the economy have consistently been at the top of the minds of most voters. This has caused other issues to be ignored in many polls, but it doesn’t mean that those issues are not on the minds of voters.

Polls that do look at other issues are finding that voters are still very concerned about moral, cultural and family issues. For example, a recent poll from a Democrat polling firm conducted in mid August found that among Republicans, 72% rate family values as one of their top concerns. A majority, (nearly 60%) of Independent voters also ranked “family values” as a priority issue. The issue ranked above taxes, immigration, nuclear weapons proliferation, energy and the war in Iraq and Afghanistan all of which seem to receive far more media and polling attention.

This may explain why AFA of Indiana has received such a positive response to our new billboard campaign reminding voters of the importance of marriage. Two more of our “Marriage: Unique by Design” billboards went up near Huntington last Wednesday.

FREMONT, Neb. (AP) – This small Nebraska meatpacking town has joined Arizona at the center of a national debate about illegal immigration after voters approved a ban on hiring or renting property to illegal immigrants, but an expected court challenge could keep the measure from ever taking effect.

The American Civil Liberties Union already has promised to file a lawsuit to block enforcement of the proposal roughly 57 percent of Fremont voters supported Monday. “In a community of 25,000, it’s going to be hard to take on the whole country, and it will be costly to do so,” said Fremont City Councilman Scott Getzschman, who opposed the measure but said city leaders would support the results.

Fremont’s vote is the latest chapter in the tumult over illegal immigration across the country, including a recently passed Arizona law that will require police investigating another incident or crime to ask people about their immigration status if there’s a “reasonable suspicion” they are in the country illegally.

The Fremont measure will require would-be renters to apply for a license from the city. Officials must refuse to issue a license to applicants found to be in the country illegally. The ordinance also requires businesses to use the federal E-Verify database to ensure employees are allowed to work.

The city, which is about 35 miles northwest of Omaha, has watched as its Hispanic population surged in the past two decades, largely due to the jobs available at the nearby Fremont Beef and Hormel meatpacking plants.

The census is on it’s way next year, and the democrats are hoping to count each and every illegal alien in the country. It may be a bit harder with ACORN out of the picture, but it seems Tom Henry is stepping in where ACORN was pushed out.

Henry hired Palermo Galindo as Fort Wayne’s Hispanic-immigrant liaison back in June. Palermo Galindo operates Centro De Dinero, one of those high-priced check cashing services whose target audience is the Hispanic market, and undoubtedly Fort Wayne’s illegal alien population.

One of his tasks is to make certain that all immigrants, both legal and illegal, get counted during the 2010 census. Fort Wayne now has it’s own “No Illegal Alien Left Behind” program.

Since the days of Jimmy “peanut brain” Carter, the democrats have tried in vain to count as many illegal aliens as possible during the census. It affords them the opportunity of exploiting the massive population of illegal aliens to redraw congressional districts and secure a ruling majority.

The Census is used to determine seats in the House, it’s all based on the head count. More illegal aliens equals more seats. More illegal immigrants counted, more power.

Both the Carter and Clinton administration all but ceased immigration enforcement during the census. After all, you don’t want these people hiding in the attic when Mr. Census taker comes knocking, now do you? During the 2000 census, Indiana lost a house seat as did Michigan, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. California gained 6 seats. Gee, I wonder why?

Obama’s Department of Homeland Security earlier this year picked up where Clinton left off, slashing immigration and customs enforcement operations across the country.

Mayor Tom Henry hired Galindo in June and expanded the position – and its pay, $44,569 a year – to the level of neighborhood advocate.

And a big part of the position is promoting participation in the census among all immigrant populations.

‘Not too early’
The city first tasked with co-chairing the Complete Count Committee, a volunteer team appointed by elected officials to ensure undercounted population are reached.

I suppose Galindo’s in a good position to convince illegal aliens it’s okay to answer the door when a census worker comes calling. Since he’s obviously cashing their checks, he has exposure to them everyday. How convenient.

They may run into some opposition if they listen to their pastor before they listen to a price-gouging check casher.

From USA Today.

The National Coalition of Latino Clergy & Christian Leaders, a group that says it represents 20,000 evangelical churches in 34 states, issued a statement this week urging undocumented immigrants not to fill out Census forms unless Congress passes “genuine immigration reform.”

From Boston.com

While the boycott is a national effort, states with significant percentages of immigrants such as Massachusetts stand to lose more because of formulas that base federal funding on population. Last year, Massachusetts received $11.4 billion in federal funds, and people who shun the census could cost the state about $1,755 apiece, said Brian McNiff , spokesman for the Massachusetts secretary of state.

BFD. In 2006 they sent an estimated $45 billion dollars out of the country, and cost the U.S. an estimated $340 billion dollars. I say, adios.

The bottom line is simple. Any illegal immigrant counted in the 2010 census will distort the apportionment of congressional districts.

Hide amigos, hide.

This morning, the Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Andy Miller, announced big changes that will take effect on January 1, 2010, concerning the documentation necessary to obtain a driver’s license or state-issued identification card.

Click the link below to continue reading..

The program is called “SecureID” which takes recommendations from the 9/11 Commission Report. The changes are said to improve the BMV’s ability to protect your identity from theft and fraud.

Beginning January 1, 2010, every person renewing, replacing or applying for a new driver’s license or identification card will be required to present documentation proving his or her:

Identity.
An original or certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate or a U.S. passport will meet this requirement. If you are a foreign national, a U.S. immigration document, such as foreign passport with a Visa and an I-94 form issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is acceptable.

Social Security number.
A Social Security card, a W-2, tax form, an SSA-1099 form, or a pay stub showing the name and Social Security number on it will meet the requirement.

Lawful status.
Again, an original or certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate or a U.S. passport satisfies this requirement. If you are a foreign national, a U.S. immigration document, such as foreign passport with a Visa and an I-94 form issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is acceptable.

Residency.
Two recent statements from a utility company, bank, credit card company, doctor or hospital showing name and residence address. Computer-generated bills are acceptable.

So if you’re homeless, or don’t go to the doctor, have an all utilities paid apartment and live on cash with no credit card or bank account, then what?

If you do not have a copy of your birth certificate, contact the health department in the state where you were born and request an official copy. Indiana county health departments can be found here . A change in the name listed on your birth certificate requires additional items to be brought in – such as a marriage license. Those who have been through multiple name changes because of marriage, divorce or adoption must show proof of each name change.

After you present all documents, you will receive an interim license at the BMV branch. You will receive your permanent license or identification card within 10 business days. It will be mailed from a secure, government-run facility to your mailing address. This added step is to provide yet another layer of protection of your identity.

If your driver’s license expires in 2011 or later, it is valid until the normal expiration date. You do not need to come into the license branch any earlier. If you are updating your name or address before the expiration date, you will have to bring all of the required documentation to the license branch.

To learn more about SecureID, please visit myBMV.IN.gov. Also, if you do not have a myBMV account, please sign-up for one at the same web site.

Okay, I don’t speak the Spanish lingo, I used Babelfish, so correct me if you want.

The Department of Justice last month walked away from a winning case of voter intimidation against members of the New Black Panther Party. Apparently that wasn’t enough. Now they’re telling the state of Georgia they can no longer verify that someone is actually a U.S. citizen before they can vote.

Georgia’s citizenship verification process was actually produced with the help of the DOJ. In a six-page letter released yesterday, DOJ lawyers said Handel’s office had created a system that “does not produce accurate and reliable information and that thousands of citizens who are in fact eligible to vote under Georgia law have been flagged.”

From Georgia Secretary of State office:

“DOJ has thrown open the door for activist organizations such as ACORN to register non-citizens to vote in Georgia’s elections, and the state has no ability to verify an applicant’s citizenship status or whether the individual even exists. DOJ completely disregarded Georgia’s obvious and direct interest in preventing non-citizens from voting, instead siding with the ACLU and MALDEF. Clearly, politics took priority over common sense and good public policy.

It should be noted that not one single voter in the entire state claimed they could not vote because of the verification process.

This should come as no surprise as the Obama administration is merely working to insure the 495,000 illegal aliens living in Georgia can vote for him come 2012.

A release from Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel is below the fold.

Obama Justice Department Decision Will Allow Non-Citizens to Register to Vote in Georgia
Decision Bars Georgia From Continuing Voter Verification Process

Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel issued the following statement following the U.S. Department of Justice’s denial of preclearance of Georgia’s voter verification process:

Atlanta – “The decision by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to deny preclearance of Georgia’s already implemented citizenship verification process shows a shocking disregard for the integrity of our elections. With this decision, DOJ has now barred Georgia from continuing the citizenship verification program that DOJ lawyers helped to craft. DOJ’s decision also nullifies the orders of two federal courts directing Georgia to implement the procedure for the 2008 general election. The decision comes seven months after Georgia requested an expedited review of the preclearance submission.

“This process is critical to protecting the integrity of our elections. We have evidence that non-citizens have voted in past Georgia elections and that more than 2,100 individuals have attempted to register, yet still have questions regarding their citizenship. Further, the Inspector General’s office is investigating more than 30 cases of non-citizens casting ballots in Georgia elections, including the case of a Henry County non-citizen who registered to vote and cast ballots in 2004 and 2006.
“It is important to underscore that not a single person has come forward to say he or she could not vote because of the verification process. Further, while DOJ argues that the process is somehow discriminatory, the historic voter turnout among Hispanic and African-American voters in the 2008 general elections clearly says otherwise.

“This decision provides a specific example of the inherently illogical and unfair nature of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. It is a sad day for the rights of our state and for the integrity of our elections. I remain committed to continuing the fight for citizenship verification. In the coming days, I will consider every option available to the state, including the possibility of legal action.”

Background:

As required by law and ordered by federal courts in October 2008, the eligibility of new applicants to register and vote is checked against the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) and Social Security Administration databases to ensure that individuals registering to vote report similar information. If information in these databases does not match information reported on the voter registration form, the applicant is asked to clarify the information. Additionally, if the applicant previously reported to DDS that he or she is not a U.S. citizen, that person is asked by a registrar to provide proof of citizenship.
Prior to the November 2008 General Election, Secretary Handel sent letters to 4,771 voter registration applicants whose records at DDS indicated they were not U.S. citizens, asking them to provide documentation of their citizenship. As of March 2009, 2,148 of these applicants still have chosen not to resolve the question about their U.S. citizenship.

In the November 2008 General Election, county election officials reported that 599 individuals cast a challenged ballot because the voter had previously indicated to DDS that he or she was not a United States citizen and had not resolved their status with county officials at the time of the election. Of those, 369 ballots were accepted because the voter provided documentation of their citizenship after the election; and 230 were rejected because the individual chose not to confirm his or her citizenship status.
On October 10, 2008, activist organizations including the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit to attempt to prevent Georgia from verifying the eligibility of applicants to register and vote in the November General Election, including whether those individuals were citizens of the United States.

On October 16, 2008, U.S. District Court Judge Jack Camp denied the motion by MALDEF and ACLU; directed the State to continue the verification process; and acknowledged the State’s requirements to verify information under the Help America Vote Act. In his order, Judge Camp stated:
HAVA requires that Defendant Handel match information in the statewide voter registration database with information from the Georgia DDS and the SSA databases “to the extent necessary to enable each such official to verify the accuracy of the information provided on the applications for voter registration.”
Judge Camp also stated:

Since the possibility of fraudulent and inaccurate voting could significantly injure and diminish the public’s respect and confidence in the electoral process, the State’s ability to maintain reliable voter lists is paramount to a temporary and minor inconvenience to a few individuals.

On October 27, 2008, a U.S. District Court three-judge panel again directed the State to continue its voter registration verification process and challenge ballot procedures through the November General Election.

Amazing.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Republican National Committee Chairman Sen. Mel Martinez rejected the claim that the new immigration bill will anger conservatives and destroy the GOP’s chances to win in the 2008 election.

On CNN’s Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer Sunday, Martinez said immigration “could be the saving of the Republican Party, frankly. And to do nothing would be the wrong thing for the American people.” Martinez is optimistic that the controversial legislation will make it through Congress, and he is counting on President Bush “to get us over the finish line.”

I gotta tell ya, these guys are making it tougher all the time to remain a Republican……

WTF???

Let’s assume for a moment, that thousands of people that don’t pay taxes decided to gather in downtown Chicago, or L.A. or ANYWHERE….. They all wore t-shirts that read ” I haven’t paid taxes in 6 years, so f#@* off. “ You suppose the IRS may stop by the rally for a chat?

Sweet Jesus, we have no balls left, do we?
