I like it. Will it catch on? I'm sure it won't shame the local media into reporting on it.
Career U.S. politician "Big" Dick Lugar holds a tight Virginia crib so Angry White Boy finds a reason to hate. Lots of people own more than one house. The video says Lugar sold the Indiana property in 1997. That does not mean he doesn't live there. Lots of people live in homes that they do not own. It is called "renting" or "leasing." By selling in 1997, Lugar probably scored a nice pile of cash by cashing in before the housing crash.
Who bought the Indiana house? This video does not attempt to answer that pertinent question.
Nothing to see here, people. Move on … to a sweet crib in Virginia if you can afford it.
Lugar pointed to a loophole in Indiana law that protects his residency status while he lives and works in the Washington, D.C. area.
According to the state’s constitution, an absent individual does not lose residence as long as he or she is away “on the business of the State of Indiana or the United States.”
Like him or not he is within the law.
article 2 Section 4. No person shall be deemed to have lost his residence in the State, by reason of his absence, either on business of this State or of the United States.
Richard and Charlene Lugar’s drivers’ licenses say they live at 3200 Highwoods Court even though they have lived in the affluent Washington, D.C. suburb of McLean, Va., for decades. And when Sen. Lugar registered to run for president in 1996, he listed Highwoods Court as his address.
Lugar confirmed that he has not owned any property in Indiana since 1977.
Lugar has spent just 325 days in Indiana between 1990 and 2011

Senator Richard Lugar lives full-time in Virginia and has no Indiana residence. Yet he obtained Indiana license plates on his car by filling out documents for the the Bureau of Motor Vehicles saying he lives at 3200 Highwoods Court, Indianapolis, a house he sold 35 years ago. The BMV has tried to mail him correspondence at that address which is returned because, of course, Lugar doesn't actually live there. Certified Fraud Examiner Greg Wright obtained all the information to confirm these facts.
So Lugar is willing to lie to the BMV saying he lives 3200 Highwoods Court residence. What other government agencies is he lying to? How about the tax agencies? Does Lugar pay Indiana income taxes? If so, does he put down the 3200 Highwoods Court address? Does he put down 3200 Highwoods Court on his Indiana tax form? Does he put it on his federal tax form? Does he not know those documents are signed under threat of perjury?
For the record, Virginia, where Lugar lives, has a top income tax rate of 5.75%. Indiana has a flat income tax rate of 3.4%. Not that that would be Lugar's motivation for reporting the 3200 Highwoods Court address on his tax returns. That motivation appears to be nothing more than arrogance and a belief he is above the law everyone else has to follow.
Does't Lugar own a fram in Indiana?
Yes, but it's just a farm. No house on the property. He stays in hotels.
I wasn't going to vote for him in the primary, but if he wins I would have to vote for him in the general.
Orwell nailed it: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others", And Dylan nailed it, "steal a little and they throw in jail, steal a lot and they make you king." Charlie White, you were just not powerful enough to enjoy Lugar's level of "equality."
If the Dems/Press (I know redundant) didn't like Lugar this would be an issue ala "charlie white"…but in their eyes he's an ally on most things..
He gets a pass cuz he's not a real republican.
Although I agree completely with the content of this video, be aware that American Bridge PAC is closely tied to David Brock, head guy at Media Matters…George Soros, anyone?
You should have come out with this information earlier.
When you're done with Dick, have Certified Fraud Examiner Greg Wright look into the MF Global Halloween bankruptcy.
JBloom, no one is saying Lugar lost his residency because he was away on business. As I've pointed out before, Lugar lost his Indiana residency, not because of his serivce, but because he sold his home 35 years ago and didn't establish any other residency in Indiana. So the law you cite doesn't matter. Nonetheless, that only applies to voting. When it comes to whether he is an "inhabitant" of Indiana to serve as a U.S. Senator, state law cannot supplement or change that federal constitutional qualification. So state law is irrelevant.
