In a childish and pathetic showing not unlike a 3 year-old that can’t get his way in the sandbox, 38 Indiana house democrat representatives have purportedly fled the state, thereby not allowing a quorum to conduct business.

This is shameful, and when it comes time for reelection I hope they’re shown the door.

Makes one wonder where Win Moses is hiding out?

I’ve began the task of collecting their cell phone numbers. I just called the first one and of course, I got his voice mail. I gave him 30 minutes to call back and give me an answer as to why they are acting like children. I also told him that should I not receive a call back, his number would be posted here. Then citizens across the state can call and ask the same question.

If you have a state rep’s cell phone number, send it my way using the form at the top, click on “Tip-line.” Enter a fake email address if you do not want me to know who sent it.

  4. DaveMacDonald says:

Has anyone issued an AMBER alert for these missing, cowardly, yellow representatives?

  5. Gadsen says:

I'm ashamed of these people! And also ashamed of you Jim!

  6. Diana says:

How shameful that these cowards do no take their oaths of office seriously. They should be removed from office for dereliction of duty.

  7. Jim Sack says:

    Thanks.

  8. timzank says:

Do you think this is a game?

  9. JBloom says:

The republicans win they win the republicans lose they lose. But the democrats win they win and if they lose they still win.Does Indiana have a recall law that wouold apply here.

  10. timzank says:

Seriously folks, this is getting out of hand. We have a representative democracy. When one side decides it's ok to not "represent" anymore, we have a problem. Our system has self-checks and remedies for redress, they are called "ELECTIONS". If your side didn't win and policies you don't like get implemented, you have the opportunity to win the next election and change those policies.

You can't just pick up your marbles and say "I don't wanna play anymore", it doesn't work that way. This puts our system in jeopardy, plain and simple.

  11. Gadsen says:

Totally agree timzank….How is this acceptable behavior??? Would it be all right if I didn't agree with what was happening at my job so I ran away?

Jim Sack, PLEASE tell me your reasoning for saying this is acceptable.

  12. JBloom says:

Really I have to hand it to Jim to hang in.It would be a lot easier to just sit this out.Too bad more D's don't have his integrity.Although obviously I disagree with him.

  13. Brad S says:

At what point do they lose their title or are they considered to have resigned? Is there a formal legal process for this in the state constitution?

  14. timzank says:

I don't if there is anything on the books about elected officials in Indiana simply "skipping out of work" but in any other other job in the free world if you give your boss (that'd be US the taxpayers) the finger and refuse to show up for work, you get your arse canned.

I don't care if your a rabid lefty or redneck conservative, you should be very very concerned when elected officials place ideology over constitutional responsibilities.

This ain't funny, it's not a college prank, it's blatantly defying the process of a government that has worked better than any other for a couple hundred + years, you can't just change the rules of the peoples house.

  15. JBloom says:

It comes down to the law.Do you know what it is ?I sure do not.Be great if we had a real lawyer spell it out.You know you don't have to use your real name.

  16. Mr. Speed says:

Now, now, now my young friends, the sky is not falling. I remember a young Abe Lincoln stepping out of the 1st floor window to avoid a quorum in Springfield, Illinois, back in the day. Does anyone have a stamp?

  17. Jim Sack says:

Thanks, JB. Mitch this morning was quoted as saying it is a legal legislative tactic. Somebody also mentioned that Abe took evasive action to avoid a vote with which he had objections. Over the past few years there have been criticisms of the filibuster rules. As long as it is legal then it is a tool to use. Now the question becomes how the Republicans will respond and whether they can skillfully use Roberts and the Constitution to further their objectives. We shall see. Thanks for understanding.

  18. charlie says:

just think of this as a filibuster, and you will calm right down….

  19. timzank says:

I hate to point out the obvious, but if Republicans had done this can you imagine the screams of "treason" on every single newscast and headline?

  20. timzank says:

No, It will not calm me right down, the filibuster is a WRITTEN rule that was voted on, passed and installed and has been long used by both sides.

    Whereas:

Simply walking out on your job shouldn't be confused with legitimate written rules. The whole point of being a legislator is to vote on legislation, that's the frickin' job. We have elected officials purposely avoiding doing what they are elected to do. That is a dereliction of duty if you support a representative democracy.

If the representatives refuse to represent, what do we need them for?

  21. BRUCER says:

I THINK THIS IS JUST WRONG, THEY ARE NOTHING MORE THAN COWARDS. I AM A REPUBLICAN AND VOTED FOR WIN MOSES SINCE HE WAS MAYOR, NEVER, EVER AGAIN. I WILL WORK TO HAVE HIM UPSET IN THE NEXT ELECTION, HE IS NOT DESETVING OF MY VOTE EVER AGAIN.—-BH

  22. JBloom says:

Maybe the republicans should had fled the country when Obama care was being voted on.
