Rumor mills are blazing about the Indiana Senate race and Dan Coats recent entry. Some have been saying the state GOP asked Marlin Stutzman to drop out. I asked Marlin, it’s not true.
Hi Marlin,
Kevin Tracy wrote today that the state GOP has asked you to step aside from the race.
True?
Regards,
Dan

Since this happened, the state party has supposedly asked Marlin Stutzman (and probably the others) to step aside and let Coats take the primary without a fight.

subject Re: confidentialNot true at all…have actually had a lot of encouragement from party folks.
So if you think you have a beef with the folks in Indy, you’ve got the wrong people. Try National Republican Senatorial Committee, (NRSC) in Washington.

Do I believe Dan Coats has the right to RETURN to Indiana and run for office? Yes, I do. Now, do I believe with his ties to the banking industry and being an insider makes him the best candidate? No.
But, just like the history of the GOOD OLD BOYS club (Republican Party) tells us, they will once again shove a candidate of their choice down our throats.
That is why both the conservative fake party and the liberal loonies are both out of control, out of touch and out of their minds.
We need to end this believe that the two party system is good for this country – it is not. What is good for this country would be grassroots people running for office without the fear of backlash from the party or parties, with no ties to the wolves in DC, Indy, Allen County and in Fort Wayne!
The national GOP is acquiring a solid reputation of not knowing local issues, not caring about local issues, and making all Republicans look like idiots. If they can't do the legwork, they need to MYOB.
The NRSC likely gets their local knowledge from the Almanac of American politics. Have you seen their local coverage? Essentially they don't have any.
I'm not at all pleased with the NRSC and the RNC. I don't approve of the national committees orchestrating the parachuting of candidates in our races. I like Dan Coats, good guy, served admirably, I voted for him and met him a few times. That being said, this is not the time for Dan Coats. I'm not at all convinced his name recognition will outweigh his baggage (living elsewhere for the last 10 years and lobbying clients who are now in disfavor).
We don't need more of the same old same old, we need strong conservative candidates without baggage and clear goals. I haven't decided on a primary candidate yet, I've got a couple of issues with Stutzman and I don't yet know enough about Hostettler but I do look forward to hearing from them in the the campaigns.
This Washington Examiner article on Dan Coats has cooked his goose as far as I am concerned. The Washington Examiner is conservative.
