Dan:
Brilliant observations about certain similarities between Germany and Fort Wayne.
 There IS one difference, though...
Germany was concerned about ALL her citizens, no matter WHERE in Germany they happened to live, while Fort Wayne (and the ruling cabal) seemingly have NO DAMN interest in revitalizing or otherwise improving the SOUTH end of town.
Sure, we have a Menards (with vandalism by the "locals" as well as the age of the homes down here, you DO need a fix-it" store), and Wal-Mart (ghetto Lord & Taylors), a K-Mart (slum Macys), AND a nice, new Police & Fire Academy (that is having a huge time finding funding, given the amount of crime in this part of town).

Now..."if" the city took some of all this seemingly "wasted" money and used it to chase off the riff-raff, get rid of the absentee landlords, enforce NCE building codes, and basically clean up this part of town, instead of using it as a haven for the drug-dealing, welfare-sucking, lazy-assed flotsam that feigns "poverty" out one side of their mouth, while laughing as they cash that goverment check out the other, PERHAPS you could get some actual TAX-PAYING people BACK into this part of town, and shore up the ever-eroding tax base...'ya think?

OR...we could beome the next Detroit.

Seems to me the choice is a REALLY simple one, when it comes to local government spending.

Good post and comments!

And did I understand that this Friday's meeting disclosed that an additional $4 million is going to be required to "upgrade" the building? That's over and above the $18 million which Tom Didier got upset about! Will this stuff ever end????

Between the city and the school district (which has their hands twice as deep in our pockets as the city), the taxpayers are being fleeced for close to half a million $ a year for PR people to convince us that we're not being fleeced. Wendy and the Tom are perfectly capable of sticking their own feet in their mouths without the help of their overpriced "spokespersons".

I cannot WAIT to experience Tom Henry's re-election bid.

Rational people will be able to identify the Genuine Fools of Fort Wayne by noting homes with election-campaign signs displayed on the front lawn. Don't look just for Henry campaign signs — ANY and ALL campaign signs will do.

All politicians are crooks and liars by profession. Our life experiences with government serve as evidence of that fact. Voting for political candidates makes citizens complicit in the crimes committed by those elected.

Watching the sheeple of Fort Wayne stampede from the Henry herd into the Republican Ranch is the next phase of this comedy we call capitalist democracy.

American government (i.e., politics) is Coke vs. Pepsi — "competing" corporations once led by the same CEO at the same time. The Summit City's next Republican mayor will be just as crooked as Tom Henry — just like President Obama is just as crooked as George W. Bush.

Capitalist Democracy: Coke vs. Pepsi — AT&T vs. Verizon — Apple vs. Microsoft

So many choices ...
