Stars and other religious emblems were ordered removed from Christmas trees in all government buildings in Sonoma County on Monday following a complaint by Irv Sutley, a disabled 65-year-old Marine veteran who said the symbols were “extremely offensive” and part of the “cult” of Christianity.
Sutley said he filed the complaint with acting County Administrator Chris Thomas on Dec. 18 after noticing an angel atop a six-foot tree in the lobby of the county recorder’s office. Sutley, a lifelong atheist and chairman of the county’s Peace and Freedom Party, said he visited the office last week for his re-election bid next June.

Don’t be fooled by this idiots veteran’s status. I’m sure he was "drafted". I only wish he had gone to Canada instead. As for his actions regarding the Christmas tree, it was disgusting………. If the MAJORITY doesn’t soon take a stand our country will be totally destroyed……………….
@gofiger… I dont see that either. Are saying that the greatest nation in the world can be destroyed because an angel cant be on top of a Christmas tree in a county recorder’s office? America is much stronger than that, the foundation of which is this person’s ability to exercise his right to free speech. Freedom isnt free.
Never met a marine YET who thought that this nation was NOT worth fighting for…and DEFENDING what it STANDS for…INCLUDING Christmas (with all the trappings)!

I don’t understand if they don’t believe, then it is just another decorations.
I asked the ladies in my office (Allen County Recorder’s Office) recently why we didn’t have an angel on top of the modest little tree we display at the BACK of the office. I guess I hadn’t noticed it before. I was told that under the previous recorder, someone who came into the office complained about it. Go figure…
Probably got a head injury while driving a logistics support truck in the States (didn’t get his driver’s license yet). Let’s put an angel on top of his pointed head. Oh and Merry Christmas!!!
John, I am personally offended that you don’t have an angel on top of your tree. Could you fix that for me? I mean whats the point of the tree without the decorations?? I guess you could put Mao on top of the tree but then that encourages the cult of Mao. Nope, won’t do. Put an angel up there and call him Mao. Mao your angel.
Decorate his yard with a manger, menorah & angels. Neighbors surround this guy with signs of the season. Irv is a PC socialist from what I’ve found on the net. And like someone else noted, he was probably drafted, served honorably when he was young, but didn’t really believe in America, so should have ran to Canada.

I sure hope he stops using religious symbols in language like the days of the week, the months, and even the year. (Call it 2009 C.E., it is still 2009 after the birth of the Son of God!)
