Updated: They did cover the story. Ben put up a story at 3:00 a.m. this morning. Must have been a busy guy yesterday.

The Journal Gazette apparently decided to sit out the Palin book signing event today. Instead of sending their crack political reporter Ben Lanka, it seems the best they could do was post an Associated Press story on their web site.

I guess they think it’s a non-story, in spite of the fact that Andrea Mitchell of NBC’s “Today” show and the crew from “Good Morning America” are here doing live remotes.

They decide for you, what’s news.

Warner must not like Palin. She looks better in a dress than he does, (so we’re told).

I went past Meijers on my way to Harlan and there wasn’t a parking spot to be found in Meijer’s lot or Menards. Came back a few hours later and it was still the same story. Yet when I opened the JG the headline stated hundreds wait in line to see Palin.

I’m canceling my subscription. I don’t trust a newspaper that misrepresents the facts.

Two reasons. One, they are lazy and cheap. Two, it doesn’t fit into their political agenda. If this were Hillary Clinton’s half-sister’s brother’s maid, they would be there. But, if it’s a woman who scares the heck out of liberal bed-wetters….then, ignore it.

  3. Pez says:

do wha? It was on the front page this morning… If you go looking for a conspiracy, you are very likely to find it. Geez, chill.

  4. Douglas B says:

Apparently the JG got the hint. Guess they did not want to tell one of their largest advertisers that an event at their store wasn’t worthy of a real, live, local reporter and photog. It has nothing to do with good journalism and everything to do with keeping the Inskeep fortune intact.

  5. Pez says:

You sure are guessing; in doing so you are giving them too much credit. To assume the JG is actually organized enough to have an agenda, let alone the will to adhere to it is absurd.

Add to that you are just, well, wrong. JG was there with a reporter and a photog, the event was yesterday and they ran the story today… whats the issue again?

  6. Douglas B says:

The issue, originaly, was the lack of locally enterprised coverage of the events of late Wednesday for Thursday publication, not coverage of events of Thursday for Friday publication. The lines and hoopla began late in the evening on Wednesday and the JG saw fit toonly use wire copy rather than get off their sacred asses and cover the beginning of the story for the Thursday edition. That is the issue.

  7. Pez says:

k… so you are upset that the JG didnt cover the fact that people were standing in line? Conspiracy! Conspiracy! Be real man… Did you really want to read about people standing in line? The copy I read Friday was local, and the photo was a local guy as well. There’s plenty of reasons to hate on the JG without making them up.

  8. Douglas B says:

Pez, try the decaf. I worked in that building for 7 years. I’ve sat in their meetings about “newshole” and space planning. I know how they think. This was not a priority for them. They would rather wait and cover the even after the fact. My original point was that is if the dignitary visting was more in line with their political beliefs, or what they see as their political beliefs of their dwindling readership, they would have spent more time in covering the run-up of the event.

  9. Pez says:

@DouglasB… k… you are suggesting that their political beliefs are not their political beliefs, but rather only what they “see as” their beliefs are? They covered the event… what run up would you have liked them to cover, the people sitting in the aisles of Meijer overnight to see an author?
