It’s getting closer people, the socialist movement that is. It’s actually breathing down your neck.
Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
This was reported earlier today by BigGovernment.com, more from BG here.
It will be interesting to see how the moonbats “spin” this. Pelosi is basically saying, do not pass go, do not collect $200, go directly to jail.
Hope-n-change, eh?

Dan:
So, we either leave this health care clusterf$ck where it belongs (in the trash bin), OR…we submit and wind up screwing our children’s financial future, AND die prematurely due to the “waiting lists”…OR, we just go to jail and get FREE health care (anyway) just like the current bunch of inmates receive…man, I hate executive decisions…
Personally, I’d leave this sleeping dog alone.
Change the tort reform and watchdog the insurance companies…THAT is health care reform, and will cost a HELLUVA lot less.
@Dan This is an advancement of a socialist movement how? Surely someone of your stature knows what socialism actually means, and as such I have to conclude you are just using the GOP buzzword to make healthcare reform seem sinister and evil… You do little for your credibility.
Pez,
It’s pretty simple to me. Not a buzzword.
Or..
Obama/Pelosi/Reid et.al are having a feeding frenzy with their inexorable growth of government. They think we’re all too stupid to take care of ourselves, so the obvious solution “to them” is to take over.
We now have over 35 czars, with no congressional oversight controlling everything from the banking & mortgage industry to the automotive industry. We even have a pay Czar telling them who can earn how much. The fed now owns parts of banks, manufacturers and if this bill passes the senate, (I’m giving odds it won’t in its current form), they will then slowly dismantle the healthcare system as we know it, and take ownership.
Now the government wants to define what health insurance is. They want to force everyone to buy a policy that covers what government dictates, and if you have not complied, you’ll be fined. And if you don’t pay, you’ll be sent to jail.
Ever read the Declaration of Independence?
Maybe some need to be reminded how it starts:
This country was founded on the basis of freedom. Our ancestors fought for it. Now it’s being taken away.
If it walks and talks like socialism, it is socialism.
Dan,
It passed the House on Saturday, but I keep hearing that it won\’t pass the Senate.
