The last post was about the 911 consolidation. The Journal Gazette had the story at 12:40 p.m. WANE has the story at 11:32 a.m., at least according to their site. They’ve been know to fudge the times of a articles release on their web site. Indiana’s News center has yet to post anything.

The press release that went out to everyone was sent a few moments ago.

MAYOR WORKS WITH COUNTY TO MOVE FORWARD WITH 911 CONSOLIDATION
Proposal creates governance structure for consolidated 911 center to improve public safety.

I bet if the Henry administration stopped real quick, WANE and the JG would need to have their journalistic heads surgically removed from, well, you know.

Douglas B. and John Henry are right on the money.

I hope that the County Commissioners stand behind the Sheriff on this one. Fort Wayne has displayed gross incompetence in staffing their call center.

Consolidation is OK as long as the Sheriff is in charge and the County pay scale is used.

The Sheriff is one of a handful of politians I actually trust. If he says it’s a bad idea, it probably is.

  3. Dan says:

Ken is on WOWO @ 8:05 this morning

  4. Outsider says:

I listened to him. Hopefully the County Commissioners support him. It sounds like another example of people making decisions without knowing what the consequences of their decisions might be.

It would seem that the COUNTY is behind Sheriff Ken…
The CITY is OBVIOUSLY not…they want the power to rest in THEIR hands (as usual).

Personally, I can’t figure out HOW MUCH FASTER anyone could respond with a COMBINED 911 center…(magic software that automatically sends the caller to the proper agency BEFORE they give an address???)
    Ouija boards at dispatch?
    Tarot cards?
    Crystal balls in patrol cruisers?

I will say that I also have a LOT more respect for our Sheriff than for the FWPD chief.
Ken doesn’t look like one to pander or placate to anyone when (or instead of) performing the duties assigned to him and his department.
    Herman was a tool.
    Rusty is an empty uniform.

If I were in a major jam, I’d much rather have Sheriff Fries covering MY six!
Can’t fault a man for speaking his mind…and not being afraid to ruffle feathers when something smells bad.
    Go get ‘em, Sheriff!

  6. Douglas B says:

This is not news. This is an effort by the City to get the County to capitulate to it’s terms. And of course, the City Administration’s willing accomplices, their local media favourites, helped put the word out with the proper spin.
I don’t know what’s more frightening….the lapdog local TV and newspapers, who have not other function than to support their political allies…..or the fact that this whole 911 dispatch issue will never be resolved until City and County governments are combined…….and that will only happen when hell freezes over. On the other hand, uni-gov could be worse…..think inextricable gridlock….
