emily mariniI can’t believe this. No, then again I guess I can.

The way WANE delivers this p.o.s. report, you would think they broke the story. They state, “it’s a story we first brought you as breaking news last night at 6:00.” Breaking? Actually is was 6:42 p.m. when they lifted the story off of this site and placed it on their web site. We broke the story originally at 3:49 pm.

It doesn’t surprise me that they didn’t use the oh so plagiaristic Emily Marini to do the story. Still feeling the “ouch” from that I suppose.

I wonder how long it will be before they take this video off of YouTube.

I should a few city council meeting updates shortly.

yeah – cause you know that the city was completely worried about the 911 not answering their calls MATT – what a blooming retard this guy is!

nice job WANE – Wann Aabe News Establishment!!!

  2. We broke the story originally at 3:49 pm.

The plagiarism is one thing (if true). But picking on them for claiming “they brought it to you first” is not valid. It is implied within the statement that they were the first mainstream news source. Blogs do a lot of good, but just because a blog gets to it first, doesn’t mean a mainstream news organization can’t claim they were the ones who brought the breaking news.

Well, just look at the text, it’s true. Nuff said there.

INC broke it first, and frankly I don’t care which one did. However, it’s about time MSM started treating blogs on somewhat of an equal level when it comes to breaking stories. INC actually gave us attrition for breaking the story both on the morning and noon newscasts.

WANE just hijacked the story, then killed it and re-wrote the story to hide that fact. Shame on them.

that, and who really wants to listen to paid main stream media anyways? They are just a business trying to survive – and the more non-zombies walk this earth, the less they are paid attention to.

they are the main advertising for pushing the illusions the zombies focus on….

This is, apparently, what passes for journalism these days. TV stations have long since abandoned any semblance of newsgathering, instead relying on press releases, public relations handouts, published meeting agendas, and now, enlisting their viewers to send them pictures and videos. Many times the PR pieces, AP wire copy, or press releases aren’t even re-written.
Does it really surprise any of us that when presented an opportunity to “repurpose” someone else’s work, the risk is seen to outweigh the importance of “bringing it to you first”? Please remember that this generation of reporters and reporterettes would not know a journalist if one came up and pissed in their imported beer. This is the generation of “it’s OK to cheat”, “it’s OK to steal” and “it’s OK to cry” because I didn’t get what I wanted. This is also the generation that anything on the Internet is free…from music downloads, someone’s pictures, or someone else’s shoe-leather reporting.
In a way, we should not feel anger, but pity for these people who come to our town. Usually this their 2nd TV job, and they only plan to stay only long enough to put together a decent audition reel and really could care less about learning the names of our streets, politicians, civic leaders or famous hot dog stands. Then they’re off to Memphis, or Austin, or Grand Rapids, or Indianapolis. If they choose to stay here, they are either relegated to aging badly before our eyes doing noon newscasts and Jerry Lewis telethons, getting out of the business and working as a government spokesperson (no bad stories about the mayor’s office), or will marry a lawyer, doctor, or politico. They are not journalists and haven’t been for the last 20 years.
It’s showbiz and a revenue generator. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well said…hit the nail on the head!
    Bravo!!!

Anyone who is a REAL journalist is not afraid to get their hands dirty and dig beneath the surface to get all the facts…
And then present them, letting the chips fall as they may.

ANYONE can read copy from a teleprompter…(a President comes to mind for some strange reason)

Man, I miss Edward R. Murrow!

    ;)

I noticed that now WANE has no place on the story to make comments… Interesting…

  8. Douglas B Pritchett says:

Meanwhile, the news blackout from the City continues with Mayor Tom saying he’s leaving the decision (to release information) up to his legal and PR advisors. Yeah, those PR advisors…I can smell a big FOI lawsuit coming – if any of the established media has the brass balls to file one. They, apparently are too busy patting themselves on the back for being “the first to bring you…”
