So Obama won the Nobel Peace Price. Big effn deal. So did Jimmy Carter, Yasir Arafat and Al Gore. It’s more of a fsck Bush gesture than anything. The Nobel Peace Prize used to be awarded based on “achievement.” Now it’s based on that HopeNchange bullshit.

I bet if Obama ran for Miss America, he’d win that too.

It’s a meaningless gesture by a bunch of liberals.

Common misconceptions about the Nobel Peace Prize

By The Associated Press (AP) – 14 minutes ago

An award that generates as much interest as the Nobel Peace Prize is bound to be surrounded by myths. Geir Lundestad, secretary of the secretive committee that awards the prize, outlines for The Associated Press some of the most common misunderstandings:

_ Myth: The awards committee announces a shortlist of candidates.

The committee does not release the names of any candidates and keeps records sealed for 50 years.

_ Myth: A campaign for a particular candidate can sway the awards committee.

A campaign could have the exact opposite effect on the fiercely independent committee, which does not want to appear influenced by public pressure.

_ Myth: Candidates can be nominated until the last minute.

The nomination deadline is eight months before the announcement, with a strictly enforced deadline of Feb. 1.

_ Myth: Anyone can nominate a person or group for the Peace Prize.

No, although Nobel statutes on who can nominate were slightly broadened in 2003. They now include former laureates; current and former members of the committee and their staff; members of national governments and legislatures; university professors of law, theology, social sciences, history and philosophy; leaders of peace research and foreign affairs institutes; and members of international courts of law.

_ Myth: The prize can be revoked if a laureate does not live up to the standards of the peace prize.

There are no provisions for revoking the prize.

_ Myth: The prize can be awarded posthumously.

The prize was award posthumously only once — in 1961, to former U.N. Secretary-General Dag Hammerskjold, after he was killed in a plane crash in Africa. The rules were amended in 1974 to prohibit posthumous prizes.

_ Myth: The prize is awarded to recognize efforts for peace, human rights and democracy only after they have proven successful.

More often, the prize is awarded to encourage those who receive it to see the effort through, sometimes at critical moments.

So, the Commander in Chief wins this award of Peace right? The guy who is ordering troops to kill other individuals for peace. And with the Collateral Damage of these troops, there sure is not going to be peace. CNN reports, “well, if you look at the last 8 years from Bush’s Presidency, Obama last 9 months is a complete change.” Not word for word there – but you get the propaganda they are pushing, the evidence they feel makes the prize justified. Personally, When will the retardedness end…

Just when I think I’ve seen it all, along comes another surprise.

Honestly, I don’t know how much more of this foolishness I can take. I just need to have a little reason in my world. Something, anything that makes sense.

  3. Lucy says:

OMG I was absolutely appalled when I heard this news. To me it has taken any and all credibility and notoriety away from that award. What exactly has Obama done to win this? Shouldn’t it have been based on his record of achievement as president? Nominations for the award were closed two weeks after him becoming president. Some news sources were saying this morning that it could be a leverage point for future peace mediations. What a laugh.

When Obama and Oprah couldn’t land the olympics for Chicago it should have been a wake up and take notice world, they are not the super power of the world.

I say ACK to the whole crock…

Again, we (as well as Outsider & Lucy) seem to be on the SAME page today…
(rolls eyes)…at THIS rate, we ARE going to need “healthcare reform”…I think I, along with quite a few MILLION other AMERICANS are having an collective aneurysm!!!

    OY!
    :O

  5. Maurice says:

My wife told me this morning and I literally had to lay down my head to even GRASP this! The NOBEL Prize? As a scientist, I might have lost track of what the Nobel Prize really means? Maybe, I also so some soft targets being awarded this Prize in the past, but never really wanted to see the bias the Committee was trying to express with this.

First, there was Gore, which every word trying to explain him winning this is wasted, it was a serious hot for me in believing the Committee had any credibility. So I gave them the benefit f the doubt, although they were heavily damaged in my perspective.

Then, this freshman gets the Prize! Well, I wanted to write down a lot of things but basically I’m very disappointed. Now he has new words on his video-prompter, he can sway his head to left and right a bit more, reading what his crew have written for him to rub in into the mind of the American People.

I’m sorry, Mr. Nobel, I am sure this was never your intention and hopefully these two people might feel inclined to start doing ANYTHING to make their consideration for this Prize be worthy? People. I doubt it, I’m appalled and disappointed and still hope this is just a bad dream.

  6. Douglas B says:

They might as well give him the prize for Economics, too. What a marvelous job he’s done destroying the country’s economy. Maybe then, he and Michelle and Oprah can fly to Oslo (separate planes, please) to accept the prize. I know it’s a sacrifice, but they are doing it for the children….

  7. Jack says:

You don’t think Obama has changed anything at all? Nothing. Really, because I’ve seen much more out of Obama than I have out of any Republican president. Bush-NOTHING, Bush Senior-NOTHING. In the last 2 decades both Republican presidents have accomplished absolutely NOTHING. In fact I’m pretty sure they’re dependence on foreign oil just made things much worse (a.k.a. $4.00 gas last year). Hmmm…..who is attempting to cut government costs, OBAMA. Now who increased government costs dramatically, the Bush family. I’m sorry Republicans, but you have nothing to show for. Who won the state of Indiana during the election, OBAMA. The more conservative you are the less change is made, therefore resulting in no growth or negative growth. Enjoy complaining for the next 3 and half years.

  8. AWB says:

    Jack,

The award wasn’t given because he changed a damn thing. You should read before opening your mouth. You Messiah was nominated only 11 days after taking office, and he had yet to accomplish anything shit.

Equating $4.00 per gallon gas to Bush is no better than Michael Moore claiming that dumbasses that took out mortgages they could not afford were like women that got raped because they wore short skirts.

We’ll keep complaining, for 3 years and 1 month when he’s booted out of office. I’d love to see your comments com next November when we clear the house of a bunch of democrats.

  9. Dan Spalding says:

If it’s meaningless, why get so upset?

  10. Douglas B says:

Dan, if it’s meaningless, then why do you ask the question?

  11. Outsider says:

    Jack,

I want what you are smoking if you actually believe that there have been any positive changes since the “O” took office, because quite actually, it would be better for my blood pressure if I lived in that world.

Bush’s reign stopped when the “O” took office so don’t push anymore blame on him. I’m not buying it. I will guarantee you’ll be hearing from me & my “ilk” till he’s no longer in office.
