Mayor of Marion says Banks is best to represent the entire district
Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold today announced his support of Jim Banks in his campaign for the Republican nomination for Indiana State Senate District 17. Mayor Seybold is a resident of Senate District 17 where Marion and Grant County make up approximately 13 percent of the district.
Mayor Seybold cited Banks’ experience as a community leader and county council member as reasons for supporting him in the 2010 race to replace retiring Senator Gary “Doc” Dillon.
“This is a time of great change and great opportunity in our state,” Seybold said. “Jim has the experience and the commitment to make sure that local needs are foremost on the minds of our legislators. It is important that we preserve the ability of our communities to fight for jobs and opportunity. Jim is a friend of Marion and a friend of Indiana who will keep those needs in mind every day.”
“Jim is a leader with the conservative credentials we need to make our state’s precious resources go as far as possible to the benefit of all Hoosiers,” Seybold added. “He is the best choice to replace Senator Dillon and the best choice to keep Indiana moving forward for years to come.”
Banks, 30, currently serves as an at-large member of Whitley County Council, Whitley County Republican Chairman and Third District Republican Vice-Chairman.
Banks is the Director of Business Development at The Hagerman Group, a 101-year old general contractor and construction management company headquartered in Fort Wayne. Before joining The Hagerman Group, Banks owned and managed a public affairs firm for five years. Prior to that, he worked in the Public Policy Department at Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he helped advance pro-family values across the nation.
Banks serves on several boards including Northeast Indiana Regional Workforce Development, Columbia City Chamber of Commerce, Fort Wayne Area Builders and Contractors Association Government Affairs Committee, Whitley County Historical Society and the Columbia City Rotary Club.
Banks and his wife, Amanda, live in Columbia City where Jim was born and raised before attending and graduating from Indiana University. They are the parents of a daughter, Lilly, born Sept. 2. They are members of Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Columbia City.
