Public Option for Healthcare: Slip sliding away
Posted by AWB in Health & Education, ObamaThe mob’s efforts appear to be changing the minds of some Democrats. According to TheHill.com, “23 House Democrats already have told constituents or hometown media that they oppose the massive healthcare overhaul touted by President Barack Obama.”
If Republicans offer the blanket opposition they’ve promised, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) can afford to lose only 38 members of her 256-member caucus and still pass the bill.
I’d bet there are at least 20 other democrat members of congress that are worried about losing their house seats if they vote for the plan.
And if they take out the public option, it gets worse for any compromise bill.
But deleting the public option won’t make life easier for Pelosi.
At least 60 liberal Democrats have pledged to vote against a healthcare bill with no public option, which they view as watered-down reform.
Then you have spineless Joe Donnelly.
“I’ll do the best I can, but I don’t know what’s the right thing to do yet,” Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) told the Los Angeles Times after a town hall meeting. “I don’t know what I’m going to do. I don’t even know what we’re going to be voting on.”
Expect Obama to retreat from the public option when he addresses a joint session of Congress, as House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is leading the charge on his behalf.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer indicated Tuesday that a public option might need to be dropped from the healthcare bill in order to get it passed.
“In the final analysis, we have to see what will pass,” said Hoyer (D-Md.). “I think the public option is a very good choice for consumers to have. On the other hand, I’ve said I hope we can move a bill forward.”
Hoyer said that even without the public option there are other crucial changes to the healthcare system, such as capping healthcare costs for consumers.
Below is the list of the 23, and as expected Baron Hill’s name isn’t on the list.

We are all adults here, and as adults we know there are consequences for are actions, so if you do not agree with his views on healthcare, you can a) do nothing, b) vote for him, c) not vote for him, d) protest and picket, its your choice, live the dream!
It all comes down to what you believe, either you are your brother’s keeper or are not. The healthcare system is broken, even when you play by the rules, because even when you are working and come down with something serious the insurance company can deny your claim and you are stuck using you own funds and filing for bankruptcy when these same insurance companies are paying out bonuses to those employees that deny claims and on top of that the same companies show record profits. We are already paying for emergency room care anyway for those without healthcare, it makes sense to me to cover everyone and not pay 10-20 times more for emergency room care.
