My position has been clear and steadfast on this issue. I want the people of Fort Wayne to be able to make their own decision about gaming.

I respect that there are diverse opinions about gaming. That is why I believe it is so important for the people of this community to have the right to decide for themselves what opportunities they want to explore. It is why I led the way in calling for a referendum. It is why I will continue to work with our state legislators to secure one.

To be able to choose our own destiny is a founding American principle. I am convinced our citizens want to be heard, and I believe they should have the right to be heard on this issue.

I am also committed to making sure Fort Wayne has every chance to thrive. In these difficult economic times, I believe an opportunity that could bring new jobs, high-quality investment and significant new revenue into our community is one deserving of serious consideration.

On an issue of this magnitude, the public should be allowed to speak. On a topic of so much significance, it is the judgment of the people of Fort Wayne that I trust. I strongly support a referendum that will allow Fort Wayne citizens to make their own decision about gaming.

Having been involved in two separate referenda I can testify that it takes work, organization and money to win one.Since the gaming industry is well organized and well financed it would be a real imposition to force concerned citizens to finance and run an anti-gaming referendum. This is the obvious reason(plus political cover) that the Mayor is promoting a referendum rather than cramming gaming down our throats like they did Harrison Square,Calhoun Street and now Renaissance Square. Henry(Purcell?) may be devious but no one can accuse him of being politically dumb on this issue!

I encourage a referendum on gaming.

Why? Because when good, honest, hard-working people who are against gambling and don’t want their taxes to go up and their streets filled with the scum of the earth (michaelk comes to mind) that casinos attract, go out and vote casinos down, perhaps we can buy ourselves at least a decade of peace from the Pat whites and Tom Henry’s crying out that “if we just had a CASINO it would all be better.”

The casino route is the path of unimaginative minds whose sole belief is in the most base parts of mankind; gambling and the sundering it brings.

this is just a ploy by henry to be seen on the side of the common person to fight for their right to be heard. this ploy is used to divert attention away from his failed policies which include that hundreds of high paying jobs were coming to downtown fort wayne, renaissance point that has spent over $12.5 million of our tax dollars with very little result, a $24 million dollar safety academy which is producing very little revenue, and the like. with now the commissioners coming out against it, the D.A. speaking against it, and the lack of interest by any casino to come to fort wayne, i believe this argument has ran its course. i will be finding out which lobbyist and how much of our money he has already spent trying to push this thru.
