Update:

Congressman Mike Pence’s amendment to remove funding for Planned Parenthood from an appropriations bill (HR3293) failed 183-247.

This afternoon, the US House of Representatives will consider an amendment authored by Indiana Congressman Mike Pence which takes the nation’s largest abortion provider off the backs of taxpayers.

Over the years, Planned Parenthood has received billions of taxpayer dollars through Title X funding. From 2007-2008 Planned Parenthood received nearly $350 million in taxpayer dollars. It can be argued that these funds subsidize their efforts to abort unborn children. In 2007, Planned Parenthood performed over 305,000 abortions in the United States – an increase of over 15,000 from the previous year.

Congressman Pence is again attempting to make sure your hard-earned money is not going to help the abortion industry through family planning and pregnancy prevention funds that can go to other groups that do not perform abortions.

Please call your Congressman about their vote on the Pence Amendment occurring this afternoon (Friday), in an effort to prevent your tax dollars from going to Planned Parenthood.

The Capitol Hill switchboard number is 202-224-3121.

First, I am no fan of abortion, and generally take a pro-life stance except in the circumstances of rape, incest, and life of the mother.

With that said, I am always amazed at the vitriol of the pro-life establishment against Planned Parenthood.

Here is an organization that provides free, or low cost, medical services and birth control for millions of American women, and the only thing conservatives tend to foocus on are the abortions.

How many thousands, hundresds of thousands, or perhaps millions of unwanted pregnancies (and perhaps abortions) does PP prevent each year by providing free or low cost contraceptives? When I was in college, all the girls I knew got their BC from PP.

How many women have they helped with free gynecological exams and pap smears? How many lives have they saved with early detection of cervical cancer or other life threatening diseases?

If pro-life advocates really want to reduce the number of abortions, then providing inexpensive and widely available contaceptives is a successful tool that needs to be harnessed tn that battle. Taking swipes at PP because part of the services they provide are abortions is silly, and really doesn’t help our case at all.

Acorn, the un, the democratic party, naacp and the black panters all do some good also, that does not mean they should get our tax money.
