You make some great points.
But, I’ve got this (nasty) feeling that the CITY of Fort Wayne might have an “ace” up their sleeve, in regard to the “county” running things, and all this “in-fighting” we’ve seen over the years between the city and the county…

With the (city) annexation of some areas (already), and others being eyed up, I can see Fort Wayne doing something that Philly wound up doing…

The CITY will “divorce” itself (secede) FROM the COUNTY…in FAVOR of becoming it’s OWN “county”.

Philadelphia IS it’s OWN county, and has it’s OWN Sheriff’s department, along with over 20K city police.

Welcome to the city of FORT WAYNE, in the COUNTY of FORT WAYNE.

Don’t think that someone downtown isn’t thinking about this (with a lot of dollar signs in their eyes)…and with a burdgeoning population added to a carte blanche/cavalier attitude towards annexing anyone anywhere, it would shore up the welfare-laden erosion of the city’s tax base (for a while), AND take some of the pressure off of the county (which would become a lot more “rural”, with a lot fewer people to “manage”.

Just something to ponder.

instead of moving the police headquarters, lets just “dissolve” it. police chief york will be leaving soon, so lets turn the city police into county police. problem solved. no need to move city police now, county has already bought land and plan on building their own headquarters on it. county has jurisdiction over all the county and city already. we can raise the salaries of the county to city standards with the savings. the sheriff, an ELECTED official, would have the added manpower to be able be able to better coordinate his war on drugs, illegal aliens, or gang clubs.

Take the 7 mil and build the second tower at the City County Building. The building is already set up for that, it was planned just for this, or just stop spending the money and keep your butt where it is at Tom.

This has the same fuzzy math and justification as Harrison Square and redoing Calhoun Street. In this economic climate it would seem appropriate for the City to limit it’s expenditures to the bare minimum instead of trying to create “legacies” !!

I only have two “concerns”:
1) What really WILL happen to the neighborhood the current HQ is located at?
2) How much will this cost WE, the PEOPLE, because we all know it will cost US something.

(so much for COMBINING city & county governments, hmm?)
