A very good friend of mine who happens to be my most left of left of friends told me this story on Sunday. And yes, I do have liberal friends.
I was at a function this weekend and my friend Jim arrived. As I went to shake his hand he held it back a bit and had it contorted so I would not apply pressure to the lower fingers. After shaking his hand, I of course asked what was wrong. He showed he his right hand, and one finger was swollen by maybe twice it’s normal size.

He was walking his dog (down the sidewalk) in the south end of town not far from his home. His dog is a seven year-old Labrador retriever, hardly a menace. As he walked by Deb Marrone’s house, who happens to be the Allen County Democratic party vice chair, her pitbull came under the fence and attacked his lab. A battle ensued, and my friend and his dog suffered a good deal of injuries.
Miss Marrone appeared on the scene and arrogantly informed Jim that even though he was walking down the sidewalk, he was too close to the animal ferocious & useless pitbull. Her dog was taken by animal control and the outcome was pending as of Sunday. Jim’s dog was quarantined, I suppose to be checked for rabies.
My friend Jim is perhaps one the most faithful democrats in town and a patron of the local party. He’s actually one of the kindest people I know.
So he’s walking down the sidewalk, minding his own business and her pitbull attacked, without provocation, and she claims he was walking to close to her property. Just like a democrat, blame it on someone else.

As for “ferocious and useless pitbull:” Don’t blame the breed, blame the owner. The dog can’t help that it hasn’t been socialized or trained correctly.
Euthanize the bitch.
Michaelk is right, and if we had taken TJ’s advice before she got the dog the problem never would have come to be.
The fact remains, if a pit bull owner doesn’t know the dangers in owning an animal like this, they have no business keeping it untethered. If you want to keep a Glock 40 at your bed stand, that’s your business. If you want to keep a pit bull next to your bed, that’s your business too.
However, keeping either where they can do harm to an innocent person IMHO, is criminal.
Oh, no question of that.
If she clearly can’t keep the dog under control and where it should be (it would seem fail on both counts) the dog would be better off in another home.
Note this also works in a situation of “kid” instead of “dog.”
Gee, I remember reading about a 7 year-old kid that tore under a fence and attacked a by passer and chewed his hand off. Makes sense to me.
(note that smart-assery about kids is not meant to be taken quite THAT literally)
It’s my understanding that Fort Wayne Animal Control’s standard procedure is to euthanize every pitbull that they take in.
Admin @ 7:42 is correct…100%
Ditto for driving a car.
It’s not about WHAT you own, but HOW you own it.
And besides, isn’t there some sort of correlation between DOG…and OWNER???
(just wondering)
I like T.J. idea, but what about the dog?
it is absolutley disgusting the arrogance of vicious-dog owners who feel it is everyone elses reesponsibility to look out for them. public sidewalk=my right to walk. dog gets loose or under fence =dog owner criminal negligence. she and all other owners like her should be charged with felony assault and do TIME.
I am a proud owner of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier which some refer to as a pit bull. He is the best dog I have ever owned. Do not blame the dog in this situation. The owner needs to be held accountable. I get so tired of hearing the dog attacked because it was a pit bull. Stop blaming the breed and blame the owner. AWB has met my “pit bull” and they love each other. By the way Jagger says hi.
