This just goes to show the level of entitlement some union members have.

From Fox News

A social services accounting clerk wants compensation for missing his lunch break on April 3[rd] during a horrific upstate New York immigration center massacre that left 13 dead plus the gunman.

James Kauchis, a government employee of the Broome County Department of Social Services, confirmed that he filed a formal complaint last week seeking the pay, according to the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin.

But he wouldn’t discuss it with the newspaper.

“That’s a matter between me, the administration and the union,” Kauchis said.

So.. while 13 people were being massacred, poor James missed his lunch break. People lost their lives, families lost loved ones and this guy is pissing and moaning because he missed his half-hour lunch break?

During the four hours that social services employees were confined to their building, pizza and beverages were brought in by department bosses, commissioner Arthur Johnson told the newspaper.

You can bet he got paid for sitting on his rear the remainder of those four hours.

On his lunch break, he’s allowed to go run errands and do things, which he cannot do if confined to the building.

At the end of the day, I think the guy’s in the right (although still a dick, no question). If the contract is written that he gets a lunch break, then he’s legally entitled to one, and should be compensated if he was denied one.

And maybe companies will think things through before they sign contracts.

Yeah, maybe they should have let the union members leave to face the potential of getting shot and possibly killed. It might have helped reduce healthcare cost if they were older, as well as get rid of a few people with too much paid vacation, etc.

He’s quibbling over what, maybe $20? Give me a break. The administrative cost will be at least a hundred or two.

This reminds me when I was a youngster training at a Teamster trucking company. I was training in an admin position on the dock. One of the Teamster’s left a big box right in front of the door to the office. I later found out he did it on purpose.

Naturally, needing to get back into the office I moved it aside a couple of feet. One of the Teamster asshats filed a grievance and got 8 hours pay because I, a non-union scab moved the box.

Union dumbass crap like this never amazes me anymore. Most of them are bitter old men.

I don’t disagree with you at all. But at the end of the day, the company entered into the contract freely, and so they must live with the consequences.

And with any luck, they’ll think better of it next time the contracts come up for renegotiation.

I’d pay him for his lunch and when it came time to downsize again, his name would be at the top of the list….just because he is a dick.

Was he ordered to stay inside, or was it simply suggested that this would be the prudent thing to do for his own safety?

Also, if he was ordered to stay inside, who issued this order? Was it his employer or was it the police? If it was the police, then he has no basis for his complaint.

Welcome to the world of local, state, and federal government employee unions. Common sense and logic do not exist in this world. Service to taxpayers takes backseat. Unions are a big reason why the Post Office is in such bad shape.
