From Right Pundits

Another embarrassing, failed appointment for President Barack Obama. The White House, hoping to favor Caroline Kennedy with the prestigeous U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican appointment, has been shut-down, according to a Vatican spokesman.

Reports vary on how the proposed-ambassadorship is happening. Senator John Kerry is reported to have asked President Obama to consider Caroline Kennedy for the ambassadorship. From there it is unclear whether the White House actually made the formal proposal to the Vatican. The Telegraph says the Vatican “has blocked the appointment of Caroline Kennedy as U.S. Ambassador.” Either the proposal was formally or informally presented, or leaked to get a Vatican response. Either way, it appears the Vatican answered with an emphatic ‘no.’

kerry gay football passWell, there you have it. Obama wants to appoint a pro-abortionist as ambassador to the Vatican? What the heck was he thinking? That’s what happens when you take advice from John Kerry. Here Barack, let me help you put your foot in your mouth.

Oh, but wait… she is a Catholic, right? She pretends to be Catholic IMHO. Believing in teachings of Christ and at the same time supporting abortion doesn’t sit well with the Vatican.

..former Kennedy staffer Philip Johnston defended Kennedy’s appropriateness. “The church is about a lot more than abortion,” he said. “It’s about human rights and poverty and supporting workers around the world and she is a great symbol of those values.”

How oxymoronic can you get? Anti-abortion *is* all about “human rights.”

Catholic teachings have a long history regarding abortion.

From the Teaching of the Twelve Apostles, or what is more commonly referred to as “The Didache.”

You shall not procure [an] abortion, nor destroy a newborn child” (Didache 2:1–2 [A.D. 70]).

For decades, the Kennedy clan has practiced their own Walmart version of Catholicism. It’s not going to work in this case.

  1. Thanks for this find. Allen is going to love this one.

I have always wondered how they can be for abortion and against the death penalty?

  3. Jimmy Johns says:

Endeanner, you can get you face in the press a lot easier crying and hugging a poor defenseless killer than you can with a aborted fetus that has no say, and cannot hire or have the taxpayer hire a attorney to plead for them. Kind of makes you wonder. Maybe we should have a law where every time a women gets pregnant the fetus will get an attorney appoint to them to represent them; by the time the attorney is done, the kid will be 18 and can get away from Mom.

The Vatican is a church, not a country. I really don’t see why we need to have an ambassador there.

  5. Endeanner says:

Vatican City is a country. It is landlocked sovereign city-state within the city of Rome Italy it covers about 110 acres and has a population of 900 souls. It is the smallest country in the world both by population and area.

  6. “Wal-Mart version of Catholicism”? Which Wal-Mart location performs D+C’s?

  7. Phil Marx says:

    Endeanner,

You are talking de jure, I am talking de facto. True national sovereignty only exists if one has the means to defend it. The “State” of the Vatican only exists because the government of Italy allows it. The Pope does not have an army. All he does is preach. That’s why I say the Vatican is a church, not a state.

If any other “nation” refused to recognize our ambassador based upon his/her domestic political positions, we would decry this as an affront to our sovereignty. The religious views of the leadership of another country should have absolutely no bearing on our policies.

Swiss Guard, I thought they were the Popes Army?

  9. Phil Marx says:

    Jimmy Johns,

Touché – I guess that if the Vatican was ever invaded by Monaco or Liechtenstein, they might have a fighting chance.

By the way, just so you know I’m not being religiously biased, I also think it is silly to waste an Ambassadorship on those tiny countries. Basically, If your entire country is smaller than my capital city, then I think you should have to attach yourself to a real country in order to be recognized.
