I am glad he has a job and is starting his life over after an egregious mistake
Mr. Borgmann,
According to the DOJ, (Dept of Justice) Sex offenders are four times more likely than other criminals to be arrested for another sex crime after their discharge from prison. Also, child molesters have a rearrest rate of 52%, and this guy would fall into that category.
I would not call this an egregious mistake, which according the dictionary means “conspicuously bad”, it’s a heck of a lot worse than that. Had this pervert actually met a child under the age of 14 instead of an undercover cop, the charge would be rape/child molesting.
This guys displayed a flagrant disregard for the law.
It’s nice to have a blog like this that tells us where these sick & perverted people are working so we do not have to patronize them and risk our children running into one of them. How many times does a parent allow their 11 or 12 year-old child go to the bathroom in a restaurant by themselves? I used to, but since subscribing to this blog I no longer do. I also no longer go to the restaurants that employ them, and that’s my choice.
Sure, they need to work, but they should be working in factories or some type of job where they won’t come into contact with children.
I have no sympathy for them. At all.
It’s always good to see a person like this getting a job and making a more positive impact on the community…
BUT…
I have to agree with AMY a lot more on this one.
You never think that much of it, UNTIL it comes “close to home”…
Then everyone cries out for something to be done.
And hopefully, you don’t have to learn a lesson the HARD way.
The DoJ stats reflect the recidivism rates of these offenders, which ARE higher than most all other criminals.
And the last time I checked, child molestation IS STILL a CRIME.
(and let’s keep it that way).
The ounce of prevention (that appears on this blog) IS worth a POUND of cure!
Well aren’t we all great at skewing DOJ statistics. I am going to provide a link to back up what I am going to say here: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/press/rsorp94pr.htm
Now within that link some interesting points:
– Sex offenders were less likely than non-sex offenders to be rearrested for any offense –– 43 percent of sex offenders versus 68 percent of non-sex offenders.
– Only 3.3 percent of child molesters (not all sex offenders) were rearrested for child molestation again. That means 96.7 percent of child molesters are not rearrested. Only 4 in every 100 people AWB puts up here is a threat. Seems a bit unfair to some of these guys who are trying to restart there life
While I like this site for a myriad of posts, these Sex Offender of the Day are not one of them and the irrational fear that it has created within you (you won’t even let your kid go to the bathroom alone now) is unhealthy.
Here’s the truth of the matter. If you want to lock these guys up for the rest of their lives for the crimes they committed, that’s fine by me. But IF we are going to let them out, they need to be able to reacclimate to society just like every other criminal we let out – because they are actually less of a repeat threat than most every other criminal we let out (according to the DOJ link above).
