A mini debate has been raging over at Fort Wayne Politics about Harrison Square and crime downtown. Specifically, one person stated that while downtown most nights, you can hear “loud popping noises”, or gunshots. Most all of the others commenting on this post say they’ve never seen any crime downtown.
I decided to look.
Unfortunately you have to search my zip code, so I restricted it to 46802 which covers almost all of what downtown would be considered. It also runs west to Freeman street so there are some instances of crime activity outside on the downtown area.
My search date range was from 02/15/2009 through 03/11/2009

I could have told you otherwise based ONLY on MY area, because as goes the WORST part of the city (here), so goes the rest…it just takes a little longer to realize it.
