Updated: From Obama’s Change.gov web site
“I am in this race to tell the corporate lobbyists that their days of setting the agenda in Washington are over. I have done more than any other candidate in this race to take on lobbyists — and won. They have not funded my campaign, they will not run my White House, and they will not drown out the voices of the American people when I am president.”
– Barack Obama, Speech in Des Moines, IA
November 10, 2007End the Practice of Writing Legislation Behind Closed Doors:
As president, Barack Obama will restore the American people’s trust in their government by making government more open and transparent. Obama will work to reform congressional rules to require all legislative sessions, including committee mark-ups and conference committees, to be conducted in public. By making these practices public, the American people will be able to hold their leaders accountable for wasteful spending and lawmakers won’t be able to slip favors for lobbyists into bills at the last minute.
That is unless your voice is represented by a republican.
– End update.
Republicans caught the Democrats in a moonlight power play last night in an attempt to to leave Republican conferees out of the House-Senate negotiations to resolve a final version of the Obama “porkulus” screw job. Staffers from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) offices met in the middle of the night to assemble a conference report.
Remember this when the feces hits the rotary oscillator and it comes time to vote again. The democrats are trying to cram a $1.3 trillion spending bill through in the middle of the night without a single House Republican in the room.
Change? yeah right.
