Though Kelty admits he lied and pled guilty, it appears he is taking 100% of the blame when it appears from the e-mails there is plenty of blame to go around -- i.e. Glenna Jehl and Fred Rost. Kelty had a terribly incompetent campaign manager, quite unprofessional and devious.
Doesn't all this bible thumping and scripture quoting give y'all the creeps? How many times have we seen people who are pastors, priests, televangelists, and over-the -top pro-life fanaticals act like they are holier than thou only to find out they are liars, or pedophiles, or wife-beaters or other skeletons in their closets?

It is becoming clearer and clearer to me that Matt Kelty's biggest mistake and liability was making Glenna Jehl his campaign manager. She was in charge of the campaign and I have yet to hear her take any responsibility for the meltdown that happened last year.

It is not wrong to say that the establishment in this county did not want Matt to be Mayor. I think that was very clear with the "Republicans for Henry" campaign. But Matt would have won if it were not for the finance missteps that were made and the childish antics of some of the supporters that were allowed to occur.

Glenna, since the election ended, has shown an immaturity in not claiming some responsibility for what happened. Not to mention her bid for Lieutenant Governor against one of the best Governors we have had in 20+ years. This shows a lack of knowledge and wisdom which I would expect from someone who quotes scripture as much as she does. How about this “you reap what you sow”.

The more you stir a bucket of poop, the more it stinks! Give it up Ms. Jehl.

Be glad you didn't lie to a grand jury.

Yeah, she should be "sorry" to Matt Kelty because she made him lie to a Grand Jury! Give me a break with the relentless Kelty for Congress spin. Ready to trounce his "friends" to advance his "cause." I guess they get to know when he is their political friend to advance his own cause and when they are his real friends where he takes responsibility for his own actions! He can't do that, can he?

It astonishes me that NO where in her two e-mail letters does Ms. Jehl take any responsibility for anything. Even after the "smoking gun" e-mails were published and made public. Wouldn't any decent human being apologize? Sorry to Matt Kelty? The public? His supporters? His legit contributors? Quit blaming the party elite, pointing fingers, and grow up. We all know you lied, covered it up, lied some more. Have some intrigity and honesty and own up to your mistakes, Ms. Jehl.

This letter and the one yesterday is one of the most self serving letters I have ever read. You have blamed the party big wigs, the country club Republicans or local Elected Officials; you were pointing fingers everywhere except where they belong, with the campaign. All these things were done before Matt won the primary, all the factors that you blame were not in play yet, and they did not come in play until after the Primary.
No matter what you say or how you try to spin it, Matt knew and you knew what you were doing was wrong and you went ahead and did it. The party big wigs and the country club Republicans or the Elected Officials did not tell Matt to lie to the Grand Jury, he did that on his own volition. Doing the right thing is not about winning at any cost for the cause, it is about doing the right thing the first time, that way you do not need to worry about all the lies and the potential e-mails that are discovered.
I was always leaded to believe that it was the job of the campaign manager to keep the candidate from falling into potential traps, not pushing them into it.
No amount of finger pointing, blaming or quoting of scriptures can hide the fact that what happened was wrong and all of you knew it. If you would have done the right thing at the time, Matt would be our Mayor now.

Oh, how this is just the opening chapter to some ugly things. If you think Kelty and buds are so bad then look behind the stove and look at the mice and cock roaches running around behind it. They are far worse then the spilled red wine on the white carpet that Kelty now represents. But the spilled wine drew the attention of all and no one has yet to look behind the stove!

To that extent Jehl is correct. But in trying to get people to look behind the stove they spilled their red wine all over the white carpet. That is their fault, but they can continue the battle if they care. If they really care there are other avenues open to them to wipe out the mice and cock roaches. It is not in the voting booth but there are powers a great deal higher then the local community who would be interested in listening.

Unlike Jehl I do believe our court system worked, Sigler did what he was suppose to do, the Grand Jury did what they should have done, the election board did what they thought was right, the person who flied the complaint had the right to do so. No place in the rules does it read that you can break the rules because others are breaking far worse rules.

The fact that the Glenna Jehl commentary, quickly fired from the lip, was put up and then removed, both at the author's request, is representative of the caliber and quality of some of the people Kelty surrounded himself with in his campaign. Emotional, rash, reactions, instead of steady, thoughtful action. This is the same group that wants to talk about how this was all put into motion and by whom, rather than dealing with the reality of the issue at hand. There will be time to discover the who, why and when of this whole sad circus, but that time is not now.

Kelty chose loyalty over capability, feelings over intellect, and was more interested in being liked by everyone to the exclusion of doing the right thing.

Certainly there is more to this whole sad story that is not being told by a couple of obscure emails. I don't think this is about conspiracy theories or cover-ups, but bad decisions made by the candidate against good advice, then not owning up to the bad decisions. The email didn't just materialize over the weekend, it's been in Kelty's possession since before his campaign finance records were filed in April 2007!

People need to realize this is a process crime al la Martha Stewart and Scooter Libby (except they went to jail). They weren't convicted of the crimes for which they were originally investigated, they were convicted of crimes that occured in the process of justice. Fact is, the real issue of whether a candidate can max out their credit cards, re-finance their home, or borrow money from friends and family and use the proceeds to lend to the campaign to compete for elective office, has never been adequately addressed.

In the end, the train's been rambling down the track for the last 17 months fueled on the hubris of the engineer, only to end up being driven off the cliff along with all the cheerleading supporters he was able to coax aboard with his profession of innocence and sincere smarmy smile.

Kelty apparently lied, to the court, to his attorneys, his friends, his many supporters and contributors, and perhaps most critically, to himself.

The law does not allow a profession of guilt and plea out of "convenience". Should Kelty attempt to back away from his admission of guilt, re-characterize, or rationalize further, he will only be lying, again.

Two caveats to consider:
1) In a "paper" society...NEVER leave a "paper trail".
2) In an "electronic" society...NEVER leave an "electronic trail".

If you can't say things (in confidence) face-to-face, then don't say anything in any other venue...period.

That's how you can avoid such problems.
'Nuff said.
