100 years ago Ford came out with the Model T, it got 21 miles per gallon.
In 2007 cars in America averaged 26.7 miles per gallon. Gas in September of 1908 cost 18 cents per gallon. Adjusted for inflation, that’s $3.90 per gallon, about we’re paying today.
Just thought you might like to know.

Dan:
You neglected to mention that Mr. Ford constructed the engine on that Model T to run on a VAIRETY of fuels (prophetic insight?).
Since traditional “gas stations” were so few and far between, the car could run on anything from gas to kerosene to moonshine (and THAT in a much greater abundance back then)…
Sometimes, the more things change, the more they seem to stay the same.

The problem is that 100 years ago, there were very few people who had cars compared to today. If gas stays at this level, it may be that way again.
The main reasons for the increase in gas prices is OPEC reducing its output and India and China increasing their usage. I fear that soon we will be the country where everyone rides a bicycle everywhere, especially if Obama is elected. We won’t be able to afford the “luxury” of an automobile.
No, if Obama is elected, it will be MANDATORY to ride a bike. Remember his comment that we can’t keep eating what we want, and warming our houses in the winter, because the rest of the world doesn’t want us to.
