wendys plan

According to the Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne Community Schools is the only district in Allen County to implement full-day kindergarten in every school.

East Allen County Schools placed it in a limited number of schools. Northwest Allen does not plan to expand full-day kindergarten outside of Arcola Elementary School until the state funds 100% of the program.

And over at Southwest Allen County Schools they will offer full-day kindergarten in all elementary schools. However, if you choose to enroll your child you will have to pay a $1,500 fee.

It costs close to $2000 for full-day kindergarten, and the state is only providing about $1000 this year.

Instead of being frugal and budgeting with forethought, this just gives Robinson something else to bitch about.

Wendy Robinson needs to be terminated…unless FWCS Board has a built-in golden parachute for her. Her reviews; which remain a secret need to be made available to the public.

Odds are pretty good she’s got a “parachute”.

  3. Either full-day kindergarten is vital to the future of children, or it isn’t. If it isn’t, we shouldn’t be paying for it.

Mitch Daniels supports state funding of full-day K. Is this a reason to vote for him?

  4. John Glasper says:

I believe our school and government officials propose and enact change just for the sake of appearing to be doing something to justify their positions. The change doesn’t have to be necessary, helpful or wanted.

I don’t think the answer to our states educational improvement is providing daycare for 5 year old kids. The answer isn’t how early you begin, it’s how effective the classroom is once they are in there.

  6. Phil Marx says:

    Tim Zank;

Thank you for summarrizing this so eloquently. If someone complains about the full-day K, they easily run the risk of sounding like they don’t care about the kids. That is just not so.

Extra schooling, in theory, means extra education. In reality, it often just means more waste of time and money.

AND…a “reserve” chute handy, just in case.
    My thoughts?
All-day kindergarten = lazy low income parents that cannot nurture or teach their children anything worthwhile during the formative years, and don’t want to babysit them for another year.
John: Change for “change sake” is NEVER any good.

Like I said in another blog – just do away with ADK and free up the gub’ment $$$ for OTHER worthless projects (we probably don’t need)!

My generation didn’t “need” all-day kindergarten then, and we don’t really need it now…it’s not about ANY school for that matter, it’s about the PARENTS, and THEY affect the kids more than ANY school could ever hope to.

    Just some thoughts…

    I call her Spendy Robison.

  9. Connie Kovas Moreno says:

Mrs. Robinson should go back to doing what she probably does best….teaching third graders. How can she justify DEMOTING the Wayne high school principal, then allowing the same individual to slid into a Home Ec position at North Side to the tune of $106,000 annually? If the principal was incompetent, she should have been ( I know this is an old-fashioned concept) FIRED! Whether you’re talking all-day kindergarten, building maintainence, or personnel issues, great management requires backbone and business smarts. Great management does not make excuses, but delivers RESULTS.

(continued) As the superintendent of a large school system with millions of tax dollars at stake and the recipient of an annual salary of over $200,000, Mrs. Robinson needs to be held accountable just as the ISTEP tests hold students responsible. I would prefer to peruse her recent evaluation in the local papers than read about another educational whim such as magnet high schools which only divert attention from the real issues.

Full day Kindergarten isn't for the low income, lazy parents, who don't want to raise or teach their kids. It is for those that want to give their children a better education. Indiana is one of very few states left that offer half day kindergarten. There are some states that have been full day only for 10 years or better.
I want my son to have the best education possible, but for a parent to have to pay $1500 to a PUBLIC SCHOOL, for full day kindergarten is insane. If I wanted to spend that kind of money, or had that kind of money laying around, I would be looking into private school. For got sake Elkhart County only has full day kindergarten and the parents don't pay extra for it, just normal book fees and supplies.
