blue laws. church and state. sin taxes. sunday prohibition.
stupid laws in indiana. then thye wonder why we have brain drain. why businesses wnt locate here. why dui nazia make 140000 harassing social drinkers, and ruining thier lives. creative class? not here. just a bunch of homegrown talibans. bin laden and his religious fundamentalist extremists would feel right at home with all the hoosier “kool-aid drinkers”

I can not tell you how often I have wanted to grab a bottle of wine or a six pack and couldn’t because it was Sunday.
It is an inconvenience and doesn’t make much of an impact on the community, except upping frustration levels.

I can’t honestly imagine anyone opposing Sunday liqour sales or car sales anymore except the employees. Having worked in both industries I was always grateful to have at least one day off.

And if one were to carry a religous reference over, (imho), we don’t need to sell ANY booze on Sunday anywhere.
Yeah, it’s Victorian, but hey, even GOD took a day off, so what’s THAT tell you?
Good enough for HIM is good enough for me.
Besides, being soused SIX days a week is plenty (and you can still buy for Sunday on every OTHER day, if you’re THAT desperate)

I am also for removing the three tier distribution system and just letting the market handle that as well. But of course that would also effect tax revenues.

So now we have to ammend our message to the kids “Drinking alcohol is bad, unless it’s any day but Sunday, or unless our preacher has told us to pretend it’s blood, but other than that it’s bad.”

But the law probably only limits the “sale” of alcohol on Sunday, which means the dealerships could give it away like they do popcorn sometimes. The sales people would not seem so onnoxious then.

Snairatrebil, Snairatrebil… I’m told that if you chant Libertarian backwards three times they’ll disappear – damn it, I forgot that if you say their name forward once in between this actually makes them multiply!

Dealerships would be crazy to open on Sunday for car and truck sales. Sunday is the only time that potential buyers can kick tires and look at the on-hand inventories without some obnoxious commissioned salesperson interfering.

As a matter of practicality, it’s safer to let folks buy their beer in a store and take it home than it is to require them to consume it on the premises.

I’m pretty Libertarian when it comes to issues like this. Whether it pertains to what you eat, drink, smoke or f**k, I think adults should be able to do pretty much whatever they want so long as they are not forcing it on others.

This Sunday liquor sale ban is ridiculous. First of all, just because somebody wants to go to church that day is no reason for them to demand that others stay sober for it. Just put a “No Drunks Allowed” sign up at the front door of the church and the problem is solved. And if your favorite restaraunt serves alcohol to one customer just a few feet from where you are having dinner with your kids, then leave the restaraunt and let them know why.

I guess what I find most absurd is the selectiveness of the law. If alcohol was banned entirely, when your kid asked why you could simply say because alcohol is bad. But if he asks why it is banned on Sunday, all you can say is “It is bad to drink alcohol – on Sunday.”
