In case you missed it, Republican state Sen. John Waterman is running for governor as an independent with Glenna Jehl on the ticket as lieutenant governor.
INDIANAPOLIS — Republican state Sen. John Waterman of Shelburn said Wednesday that he will run for governor as an independent if he can gather enough signatures to get on the ballot.
The conservative from southwestern Indiana’s Sullivan County said he has chosen Glenna Jehl of Fort Wayne to be his potential running mate for lieutenant governor. She was the campaign manager for failed Fort Wayne Republican mayoral candidate Matt Kelty.
Here’s two quotes from the News Sentinel story yesterday you might find interesting.
“I’ve just been a blue-collar worker,” said Waterman, who now runs a contracting business that helps build or improve homes. “I live paycheck to paycheck just like everyone else does.”
That’s who they want for governor? Someone who at the age of 56 is still living paycheck to paycheck?
Jehl said she agreed to have her name as a lieutenant governor candidate placed on the petition that Waterman hopes will get him on the ballot, but said she considered the matter at this time a “trial balloon.”
So, what’s the point? Sorry, I don’t get it.

I think Ron Paul has every little ego-maniac with a small following thinking they can raise an army. Waterman has shot himself in the foot and if he can get the signatures, I’ll be curious to run a Voter Vault analysis and see how many of those are basically strong dems who are trying to get two votes against Mitch.
I want to call out the conservative right (Micah Clark, John Price, Eric Miller) and say “do you want to lose the governor’s mansion?” If not, Waterman has every right to run, but let’s not waste money on this escapade. Come out now and come out loud against this waste of resources.
I know strongly conservative churches that want to follow the aforementioned men, but they will quickly lose their credibility and funding if they start down this road.
