Kans for Kelty
In addition to yard sales, rummage sales, garage sales, bake sales, and now his house sale, to generate money to fund his legal defense against the questionable charges brought against him, a flyer for the this event identified they are also collecting aluminum cans.
There are about 34 aluminum soda (beer) cans in a pound, and if less than a truckload, the price per pound for aluminum cans is approximately $.34, or $680/ton. That means that for one ton of cans, or $680, they would have to collect approximately 68,000 cans.
That’s a lot of soda (or beer).
God bless them all!
Last I checked aluminum was going for about .72/lb, higher on Tuesdays. And the going number of cans per pound was/is about 24.
That means a penny a can, if you are right about 34 cans in a pound, and 34 cents per pound. Would you bend over to pick up a penny? Better yet, should the Mint stop making pennies and instead we all start using cans as coins?
Robert,
I don’t think it will work. I tried sticking a can in the gumball machine at the barbershop, and it didn’t fit.
I think the larger concern is, if a lawyer charges $250-$500/hour, a ton of cans at best will only pay for 2.5 hours. Hours many hours is it for trail prep and conduct of a trial? Sounds like it could be a lot of cans.
