Thanks Matt for the credit of SW fire. It actually happened in the county, which falls into Southwest Fire Districts coverage area. . Due to the location of the accident, we immediately called in Engine 7 for a dual response, which falls within our protocols for the area. Engine 7 and Southwest Fire's engine 151 pulled up on scene at the same time.

Extrication was performed with multiple jaws-of-life from both engine 151 and engine 7.

No helicopters were used due to the close proximity to our hospitals. It is a county protocol if there are any trauma incidents that the helicopters are put on standby.

On scene were:
SW engine 151
SW engine 251
SW rescue 57
SW Emergency 55(ambulance)
FWFD engine 7
FWFD engine 17
TRAA/AMR ambulance
FWFD Battalion 17
SW Fire 51(Chief)

AMR transported one patient to hospital with a SW firefighter/EMT drove their unit.

FWFD was released from the scene shortly after extrication.

Southwest Fire units were on scene for over 3 hours before they cleared the scene.

What you don't notice in the photos is the combined efforts of the Southwest Fire District and the Fort Wayne Fire Dept. working together to extricate the driver of the silver car.

Firefighters and Medics from both departments worked side by side and preformed in an excellent professional manner.

Sometimes people don't hear the good when something tragic like this happens. Around here we take that type of cooperation for granted, but trust me it's not that way everywhere.

My condolences to the family.
