The City of Fort Wayne rolled through this afternoon to finish the leaf pickup that was delayed due to an early snowfall. For that, I commend them.
However – they seem to have an issue with the proper operation of heavy equipment. I didn’t have leaves out for pickup, but the neighbors across the street did. In the course of picking up their leaves the city once again trashed my lawn.

I did speak with Ken Nicolet, the Southwest Area Advocate about the situation and to the city’s credit they’ve scheduled a crew to come out and repair and re-seed the damage this spring. How about they just slow down and take their time doing the job correctly the first time? Then again, maybe their ineptness is nothing more than job security?
One thing I did find odd is the use of this big-ass front-end loader (picture from security camera).

It’s nice the City will re-seed come spring.
It seems the drainage on newly acquired City Roads with the over-development is becoming an issue too.
Let’s just hope they refill the pot holes. Yes maintain the roads, please.
It was entirely too wet to be running front end loaders across unpaved ground. I noticed the same damage being done by a city crew in a residential neighborhood near Glenbrook.
I was suddenly very happy that my leaves remain on my lawn.
You lucky guy, you….!
AT least they’ll REPAIR your property. I can’t even get them to berm the one block where I live that happens to have NO sidewalks. (and to which the city IS responsible for berming).
Each year…I lose a few more inches of MY property to traffic, street department cleanup, etc. Pretty soon, they’ll be next to my LILAC BUSH (12 feet from the “street).
Then again…this IS the SOUTH side…lol!
Anything goes, eh?

(who do I have to sleep with to get some respect?)
(on 2nd thought…don’t answer that)
Bob,
Have you called your area advocate about it?
You can call….for all the good it does.
My wife emailed her when she first became SE advocate…never got ANY response.
And I contacted the former advocate, Brent DuFor, years ago….and again, we were ignored.
Guess we’re not “tan” enough…
(ooh…did he REALLY just say that?)
You betcherass I did.
I even had the street dept. head out years ago (fellow named Kennedy, and nothing was done then.
I figure al long as I keep tossing enough crap at enough walls..sooner or later we’ll hit the sweet spot aka “the tipping point”, and something WILL get done.
Until then…where’s those “cow-pies”?
