Steve Shine and Tom Hardin, partners in the law firm of Shine & Hardin, LLP, Gary Chappell and Brian Adams, partners in Chappell’s Coral Grill and Seafood Market, MAJIC 95.1, WAJI, and Lake City Bank welcomed the arrival of a thirty-five foot Norway Spruce to the Broadway Plaza located at Beaver Avenue in front of the Shine & Hardin Law Offices and Chappell’s Coral Grill and Seafood Market last Friday, November 9, 2007.
Shine & Hardin and Chappell’s are co-partners in the ownership of the Broadway Plaza, and both MAJIC 95.1, WAJI, and Lake City Bank are members of the Fort Wayne business community who have become partners in the tree presentation based upon their commitment to Fort Wayne neighborhoods.
From November 9th through November 17th, crews will be adorning the Norway Spruce with over 10,000 colorful lights in preparation for the lighting spectacular on November 17th.
The elegant thirty-five (35) foot Norway Spruce, which was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Knipstein of Fort Wayne, will be illuminated during a lighting ceremony on Saturday, November 17, 2007, beginning at 5:45 p.m. The ceremony, where over 10,000 lights will be turned on, will serve as Fort Wayne’s kick-off of the 2007 holiday season.
The Majic in the Morning team from MAJIC 95.1,WAJI, will be broadcasting live from the Broadway Plaza beginning at 5:00 p.m. and the radio station will be providing regular traffic updates that evening to help facilitate easy access for those driving to and from the event.
Steve Shine said that the tree represents a “gift” to the seven neighborhoods that surround the Broadway Corridor, those being Creighton-Home Neighborhood Association, Historic South Wayne Neighborhood Association, Historic Oakdale Neighborhood Association, Broadriver Neighborhood Association, Fairfield Neighborhood Association, Illsley Place Neighborhood Association, and Williams-Woodland Neighborhood Association.
“The commitment from Shine & Hardin, Chappell’s, MAJIC 95.1, WAJI, and Lake City Bank towards the strength of these great neighborhoods is unwavering and, to that end, we wish to continue the tradition of taking great pride in our neighborhoods, as well as acknowledging the pride that is taken by the residents of the neighborhoods in their own homes and property,” Shine said. “We also owe our deepest gratitude to those other businesses who have made this event possible, specifically Harold McComb & Son Construction (Al McComb), Mudrack Tree Services (Dan Mudrack), Summit City Electric (Suzette Brown), Exquisite Designs (Ed Bowman), and Vision Scapes (Mark Nolot),” said Shine.
This year, in addition to the tree lighting ceremony itself, the festivities will include a live reindeer, a train ride for the children on the “Polar Express”, live holiday music provided by the Francie Zucco Trio, holiday food and beverage and, of course, a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus. “The public is invited on Saturday evening, November 17, 2007, at 5:45 P.M. on the Broadway Plaza in front of the offices of Shine & Hardin, to watch the lighting of the tree.

Hope they’re all watching their six….been a rash of MUGGINGS along Broadway lately.
Nice to know crime is going DOWN in the city (yeah, it’s “going down”…as in HAPPENING).
I’d hate to see a pall cast over what would be an otherwise nice seasonal gathering.

As a new Broadway property owner, this is welcome news, indeed. Irrespective of views on Shine’s politics and/or personal stuff, he’s to be commended – HUGELY!!! – for remaining dedicated and devoted to the center city while so many other professionals have fled.
Relatedly, I recently met the sister team at Bride to Be, in the first floor of Shine’s building. Great women and great business. Any and all FW brides should at least visit them. Great space, great vision, great service, and… hopefully, great future.
Thanks, Dan, for posting this.
