I received an email today from a Daniel Harrison that asked the following question. I’m posting the answer here.
As a liberal myself, I definitely couldn’t attack your right to critique those in power, and I think the job you do is important. I am also curious if you think Matt is really that good of a candidate. I mean you clearly think he is better than Tom, which is obviously fair, but do you really think he is that great or just the only current alternative to what you describe as the “good old boy” network.
Tom will bring us more of what we’ve had from the Richard administration for years. He’s an incumbent by proxy. He’s connected to the same network of the people that have run this town for years, whether they are republicans or democrats. The good old boy network in this town crosses party lines; it’s all about the money.
Henry is a very nice guy but that isn’t enough for me to vote for him. He’s a tax and spend liberal and wants to continue the Graham Richard legacy. Richard’s office is one of exclusion; it’s their “screw the taxpayer, we’re in charge and you’re too stupid to think for yourselves so we’ll think for you” attitude that disgusts me.
Take the recent denial by city of Fort Wayne to Indiana’s News Center (as well as Matt Kelty) for data on the soil testing. If the city buys that property they’re spending our tax dollars, and the city owes us as investors to share that data. It’s the same way they’ve treated us on Harrison Square. Frankly, I’m weary of the city operating in a cloaked and secretive manner.
City government is getting out of hand and when they spend over $50 million of our money to move a few hot dog vendors from one end of town to another, well as Bill Engvall says.. “there’s your sign”. Now we’re about to subsidize a McDonald’s restaurant to attract businesses and jobs. Why?
Or, how about the balance of the $34 million bond the airport authority will have to repay for the Kitty Hawk debacle? In a statement released today, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority indicated that increasing property taxes is an option to pay off the debt. That building was designed for Kitty Hawk’s operation. It’s unlikely that there are any candidates to replace them. It’s now an albatross to Fort Wayne taxpayers and in the end, we’ll get it rammed right up our wallets.
Graham Richard was a small-time venture capitalist wanna-be prior to taking office. The name of the company was Ruffalo-Richard. Graham Richard still thinks he’s a venture capitalist and he’s using our money to fund these ridiculous ventures. All the while, the city’s budget continues to grow, annexations continue to strain city services and our property taxes continue to rise. Do you want more of that, Daniel?
Matt will not run this city like Graham Richard. Henry has already said he will continue the Richard legacy. Matt will surround himself with highly qualified individuals that will work to make city government more efficient. You won’t find Matt spending our tax dollars subsidizing second-rate baseball teams, second-rate hotels and burger flipping establishments.
It’s time for a change. Vote for Matt Kelty this Tuesday.
