I thought our readers might appreciate an examination of the cast of characters from the “Republicans for Henry” commercial.
Fred and Rebecca Graf. Cathy Hawks daughter and son-in-law. Imagine that. But where was Rick?

Gina Zimmerman – no registration found

Sarah Osselaer – has no voting record

Nick Nicholas – Only voted in 2002 and 2007 primaries (GOP)

Colin Vaughan – only voting record is the republican primary in 2002. Didn’t even bother to vote in that general election.

There you have it folks. You would think the Henry campaign would have found people that took their right to vote seriously.

Dan,
and of course me. Who has voted in every GOP primary back to 1994 or so but I am a RINO right?.
I believe Ms. Zimmerman worked or works for Mark Souder.
Any ad can be picked apart in this manner. If you wanted to, I am sure you could find at least one non-kelty supporter in Kelty’s newspaper ad that he ran. Or, if you wanted to, you could back all of the minors out of his ad and see how many actual voters are left.
To pick apart Henry or Kelty’s ads in this manner is just kind of silly in my opinion.
Dan,
Gina Zimmerman votes regularly. The only election she missed since 1998 was the 2006 Primary.
Check your facts….oh, wait, why would you care about being accurate now?
Editor’s note: I had someone else get the records. I will have them recheck. If you’re right I’ll post a correction.
Dan
Great post. If you look at the pictures from the “Republicans for Henry” press conference you will see almost the whole Hawks family (I didn’t spot Adam or his wife in the pics), Becca, Fred, her daughter Rachel, and of course Rick. I also know that she is good friends with Sam and Kathy Talarico. I can also spot Sherry Chapman, another confidant, who is on the SWACS school board. Kathy and Sherry are on Cathy Hawks “Worship Team” at the Chapel along with Rachel and Fred. One big flip-flop family!
P.S. Maybe Adam wasn’t present because he didn’t like the idea of Mommy circumventing the democratic process he has been fighting to promote in Iraq. Just wondering.
looking forward to the info on the people in the ‘democrats for kelty’ ad! oh, wait…hell, i’d like to see the ‘republicans for kelty’ ad…well, nevermind.
Does it really matter who the people are? There is obvious support for Henry from Republicans. It doesn’t matter who is really pictured. I have never voted for a democrat in my life. While in law school in Ohio I registered to vote in Ohio to vote as a republican to support Bush. I have worked on republican campaigns and for republican elected officials. I will be voting for Henry in this election. There is no way I would vote for Matt Kelty.
Gina Zimmerman lives in a neighborhood that was just recently annexed. THere wouldn’t be a record of her vote for city officials until this year, I believe.
Sam T. Are you related to Beth T. at the Chapel?
Carol,
Beth is married to my nephew and godson Nick.
Sam
People,
Have we totally lost it?
I mean asking people if they are related to someone? About next we are going to see people asking if someone is related to a cousin, of an uncle, of a brother, of some exgirlfriend.
I have no issue in people identifying people who are part of politicial spot. They became “fair game” when they agreed to take part in such.
Maybe it is just me but there seems to be more pressing issues then this. Then again, maybe everyone is running out of gas………….
JQ, unless I misunderstood. I thought Carol was just politely asking me whether I was related to someone that I presume she knows. I didnt think Carol had any political intent although maybe I am wrong. Lighten up.
PS. Dan, does it get anymore republican than the daughter of the former vice chair of the GOP? or somebody that either works (or has worked) for souder? What is your point? Heck Kevin Knuth pointed out the same thing regarding an alleged “democrat for Kelty” letter to the editor.
At the end of the day, you know and I know that Tom Henry is likely to get more republicans to vote for him than any past democrat mayoral candidate.
What is your point? are you denying the existence of any Repbulicans for Henry just because these 5 people fall short of your standards?
I dont get it.
Sam – Probably not the best forum, but do you know of any explanation for the city’s refusal, at least at this point, to release info about the OmniSource site?
JQ… I was just curious if there was a connection. There was no political intent whatsoever. We can get back to sparring on the issues now.
And it’s true. I’m one who’s running out of gas. I’ve been walking neighborhoods 3 hours every single day for a week now and I’m tired. But I won’t stop until tuesday evening when this election is over. I honestly don’t know how these candidates and grassroot workers have the energy! I admire them all.
Heck yeah there’s an explanation.
It’s got a lot of toxic goo in it.
They don’t want anyone to get riled up before Election Day. Then they will make fast work trying to get this liability bomb moved over to the taxpaying suckers between now and the swearing-in in January.
Graham Richard thinks we citizens should be treated like mushrooms!!
Kept in the dark standing in manure.
Carol,
You bring up a valid point- folks have NO IDEA how hard it is to be a candidate!
Walking door-to-door is exhausting hard work- and not enough candidates actually do it!
Kevin

Carol & Sam…
I guess I am tired of seeing people trying to draw in people to become human targets for some off the wall comments. While my comments where based on the question Carol ask, it was not ment to say she was going to do something that was underhanded. I have just watched too many others try to bait people into things. So I am now calmed down, but still tired.
Carol & Dan….
Your are so right on what it takes out of person to run for office. I have no idea how Matt or Tom can keep it going. The two of them apparently know how to take a 24 hour day and get 36 hours out of it.
What makes it an even longer day is having to shower yourself off from all the mud slung by Kevin each election.
Kevin flings the sort of stuff that turns off voters.
For those who cannot understand Dan’s point …THE NONVOTERS MASQUERADING AS GOP VOTERS ARE LYING. Thank you very much.
Sam Talerico and Kathy Hawks are indeed RINOs. If you disagree with your party’s nominee, quietly voting for another candidate or abstaining from voting is acceptable …but publically attacking your party and its candidate though the media is not the way that you make friends and influence people.
Sam T. has been in both parties and I presume he conveniently became a Republican in order to win an election in a GOP town. Sam, I am not accusing you af attacking, but your public support of Henry is untoward. I am shamed to think that you got my vote in the last election.
Cathy Hawks and other executive committee members have, with effort and forethought, successfully crippled the Allen County Republicans as a political organization.
GOP leaders should realize, but obviously do not, that a large part of the party consists of conservatives, so you can expect that old leaders will be swept out in favor of New Order Reaganites.
I usually vote Republican but I broke with that when Graham Richard had a better vision for getting police into the neighborhoods and improving city services, fixing potholes… a problem that progressively got worse as the Helmke administration got entrenched and lost its enthusiasm to serve the people. I couldn’t vote continuation so I voted against Linda Buskirk. And we got a good change. The downside, Graham never met a dollar from somebody else’s pocket that he wasn’t willing to spend. This thing has run away from him and us!
TIME FOR CHANGE!
It is time for the KELTY MANDATE!
I think it’s funny that Sam T has been in both parties, and is now supporting the democrats, while conveniently claiming to be a Republican. His old man knew what character was, and still does. Interestingly, if you drive by the original Sam T’s house, the Sam T who was a Democrat all of his political career (not becuase it was expedient – but because he believed in the party), you don’t see a sign for Kelty?! – Nor do you see a sign for Henry??!! (although there is a political sign in the yard!!) As for Sam T implying that Cathy Hawks was “Republican” becuase she was the daughter of a “real” Republican, Come on Sam, Does that mean you are a Democrat? – ooops – I guess that was a stupid question. In my opinion, belonging to a political party is more than a label – it speaks about your core political beliefs. Sam, what are your core beliefs? And, finally, to destroy the local party from within like Sam and Cathy have done is disgraceful. The electorate chose Matt Kelty over Nelson Peters. I think there are only 3 responsible choices an elected official has if they a) don’t like the candidate personally and b) can’t argue philosophically with the elected candidate; support that candidate, get out of the party, or show the class that you should have learned from your father and keep quiet.
Dan,
I had someone check their voting records as well when the first commercial came out and was given the same information as you. Either we went to the same source or our data is correct. I did not know of the Graf/Hawks connection though.
Cathy first told the public that it was difficult for her to support someone who has indictments against them. Then she said she met with the candidates and her decision is based on the issues. The TRUTH is, she was seeking political influence and Henry is giving it to her.
Political power and influence. That is what is driving Cathy Hawks.
And her first option with this new wonderful political influence, is being able to get her family on TV!! (a dream come true.)
I also believe that another of Cathy Hawk’s reasons for shunning Matt Kelty is because of pride. She was humiliated back in early Spring when she was caught red-handed “relocating†a Kelty sign to place a Peters sign. Sadly, she has repeatedly and publicly denied the incident. But the crew of FW firefighters that witnessed it, as well as the one who confronted her on the matter and insisted that she put the Kelty sign back from where she pulled it, know the truth. For me, it’s not so much about the stupid sign, as it is the lack of character she has shown in dealing with the truth. The TRUTH….ahh…now that’s whole new concept for some, now isn’t it?
Hey all, if my memory serves me, I voted in my first election when I was 18 and now I am a proud 51 (that is a ton of times voting). However, as a newly annexed voter, this is my first time to ever vote for mayor of Fort Wayne. So saying I haven’t voted is a tad more than inaccurate. Seems to be an epidemic of not getting the facts right, heh! Isn’t democracy great. We can vote for the person who we believe will be the best candidate based on their credentials, integrity and reputation. All of my long-term Republican friends have been extremely supportive of my public stand for Henry. In fact, they are either voting or leaning towards Henry.
