Earlier I stated it I had diverticulosous but I had it backwards; it’s diverticulitis. The old adage of “you are what you eat” sums it up. Eat oatmeal.
I wasn’t scheduled to be released until today or tomorrow but I was out yesterday. How could a female doctor resist me saying “I really wish I was home by 4:00 to watch the game with my granddaughter”..?
She said if I could eat some real food they’d let me go home. Up until that point they had me on a liquid diet that included jello but I just couldn’t eat.
Soon after scrambled eggs and coffee arrived. One smell of the eggs and I was headed for the bathroom. While I didn’t touch the eggs or the coffee, I was set free anyway. The only thing I thought I’d miss was the self-administered Dilaudid. I had a little button that allowed me to inject 2 milligrams every 10 minutes. After 2-3 injections I was pretty much guaranteed to sleep a couple of hours sans a nurse coming in for my vital signs. They tried morphine on me twice when I first arrived and they might as well just administered aspirin. Once they switched to Dilaudid the pain was bearable. They now have me on three meds that include one that’s $10 per pill (after my Anthem discount).
They hope to have it under control with the antibiotics and a change in diet. I never thought of my diet as being all that wrong. It’s usually a hunk of flesh and a few few veggies cooked on the grill. I’ll get official marching orders later this week on my “new diet”. Hickory nuts anyone?
Eat well

Glad to know you made it back home last night. I knew you were to full of it for them to keep you to long. BTW glad to hear that even with you not feeling well that you can’t follow rules.
I watched my father in law go through that. He was a tough old war vet that was severly injured in Korea and the diverticulitis kicked his rump, so I know how painful it had to be.
Welcome back and watch your diet!
I’ll repeat my advice to you: eat around the perimeter of the grocery store, leaning heavily on the produce end. If it comes in a cardboard box, it isn’t food.
RWM,
You are obviously unaware of what Diverticulitis is. While Dan is still recovering, the worst thing he can do is eat through the produce isle. Typically “roughage” and anything that contain small seeds will only inflame the infection. Only after he heals can he return to a high fiber diet. Ironically, he is probably on a bland diet of Chicken broth, mashed potatoes, pastas and jello…..Most of all of that actually comes in Cardboard boxes. NEXT.
Many parts of the pine cone are eatable. Glad to see you back.
