Kelty shifting culpability
We have read the newspapers, watched Matt Kelty’s video and testimonials and still find something lacking – the acceptance of responsibility. Kelty is, no doubt, a fine architect, good Christian and beloved family man. However, his constant whining that he was maligned by a) Andy Downs, b) Common Cause and c) the Allen County Republican hierarchy appears to shift responsibility from himself to almost anyone else.
Had he disclosed his “loans to himself via good friends†earlier, rather than having his party urge him to come forth after the fact, a grand jury would not have been necessary. Still, he feels “victimized.†This does not inspire confidence in those of us who value honesty in politics.

I guess Norm and Mary Ann didn’t read the 16 Sep 07 Matt Kelty piece printed in the Journal Gazette where indeed Kelty clearly says, “I take full responsibility for anything my campaign or I may have done or failed to do.†I honestly think that is taking responsibility.
But certainly Norm and Mary Ann, you can’t honestly think it was a coincidence that Democrat Andy Downs after being voted down on the election board on the Kelty matter, resigns as a member of the Governing Board of Common Cause of Indiana the DAY BEFORE they file a complaint against Kelty with the Allen County Prosecutor. And certainly Norm and Mary Ann can’t honestly think that the time between the filing of the complaint, the passing on it by the County Prosecutor (who campaigned BTW on “Not hiding behind grand juries.â€), the request for a Special Prosecutor, the approval by Judge Fran Gull, the identification of Prosecutor Dan Sigler and his acceptance of the case, all with hours is the normal speed at which justice is served in Allen County.
Norm and Mary Ann, c’mon honestly!?

Dan, I’ve noticed a similar deluge of letters to the editor in recent days, all with similar content. I suspect that this rash of anti-Kelty mail is the result of surreptitious efforts by Mr. Knuth and elements of the Henry campaign, and are designed to keep Mr. Henry’s hands clean. Despite Tom’s pledge to run a positive campaign, even his latest TV spot takes a back-handed stab at Kelty’s trustworthiness, so it is not unreasonable to suggest that the letter-writing campaign was orchestrated by Kevin, and most likely with Tom’s implicit blessing.
Of course it is, good cop, really bad cop.
I actually have a different take on the letters. I think they are from the Kelty campaign. Having all of these letters continues the assumption that he is being victomized by whomever. Therefore he can still make himself look better. It is a brilliant strategy because it puts his name in the paper constantly.
