A “well regulated militia” – the misnomer
On Facebook, the liberals are all over the phrase, “well regulated militia.” Just today, someone posted this on my wall.
For the MILITIA to have guns…oh, and they didn’t have assault rifles when the Bill of Rights was written…just sayin’. However, this point always falls on deaf ears…
Ignore the facts, and believe everything the left wing media tells you. The image below was posted to this persons Facebook wall, which they got from über-liberal Rachel Maddow’s Facebook page.
The Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia.
In 2008 and 2010, the Supreme Court issued two landmark decisions officially establishing this interpretation. In District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), the Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.
Also, no where in the 2nd amendment does it state what type of firearms.
So, you see, they don’t argue with facts, instead, they tend to more often than not spew the crap from the likes of Rachel Maddow, and the mainstream media, all without researching the facts.
This proves what I recently read about low-information voters. They propelled the prince of darkness into a second term.
Fun fact. Automatic Weapons Ban = AWB

I believe the Second amendment was written to protect the citizens from a tyrannical government.Yea there were no assault weapons when the Bill Of Rights were written. The government and its citizens each had one shot muscats.Kind of made things even.Todays assault weapons is just the evolution of that concept. It is much better to have the government afraid of it's citizens than the other way around.Have you noticed that dictators surround themselves with children when they try to make a hard point. Americans who have not owned a weapon are rushing to buy one.If you don't believe it go on line and try to buy a gun. Most everything is out of stock and is on backorder. This is backfiring for Obama.
People do not understand the usage of language at the time of the Founding. Just like the word “score” as in “Four score and seven years ago…” the meaning has been lost or forgotten.
The phrase “well regulated” meant, at the time of the Founding, “well running” as in a well regulated clock. Or a well regulated, healthy body.
The phrase “well regulated” does NOT mean regulation. Quite the contrary!
The phrase is meant to be understood as “Of course to have a well running militia to keep our government under control- the people need to have arms”
The progressive’s about 100 years ago PURPOSELY changed the well known meaning of the phrase to begin the slow steady erosion of the people’s right to have arms because they no longer believed in a limited government. They did not believe the people, they thought were so stupid, should stand in their way of the “good” works of government!
